Robert Mueller is the last hope for the Democrats.
They are counting on him to take down President Trump.
And he just received news that will help him do that.
Robert Mueller’s investigation has crossed the line.
At the beginning, the scope of the investigation was to look into potential collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia during the 2016 election.
Both Trump and many Republicans welcomed the investigation as an opportunity to clear Trump’s name and prove that the President won fair and square.
But the investigation isn’t about collusion anymore.
Now it’s become about finding anything possible to harm the President and his allies.
The investigation has been running for nearly two years and still, no proof has been provided backing the accusations of Russian collusion.
Although many supporters believe Trump has every right to shut down the investigation, Trump has made no moves towards doing so.
But Democrats are working to make sure that no matter what happens, Mueller will be protected.
In the last session of Congress, Democrats were pushing bills that would protect Mueller’s investigation should he be fired.
The bills have not made any movement, but do hold some bi-partisan support.
And their newest bill being introduced this week is no different.
It already has support from a number of Republicans, two of them being co-sponsors.
The Senators introducing the bill are Christopher Coons (D-Del), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Cory Booker (D-N) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC).
This bill will give Mueller more freedom to operate with immunity.
So far, he has not had any oversight and has faced little opposition.
With as shady as his investigation has been, some believe that should change.
After all, Democrats were heavily involved with the origins of the investigation.
Their connection began with the anti-Trump dossier, compiled by former British spy Christopher Steele.
Steele himself is currently facing lawsuits in both the United States and the United Kingdom in response to the dossier.
Fusion GPS is the firm Steele worked to create the dossier, which had received funding from Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee to pay for the research.
Salacious claims, among other things, were made against a then-candidate Donald Trump.
The release of the unverified dossier was eventually made public after former FBI Director James Comey briefed a President-elect Trump on its existence.
It is this very dossier that was then used by the FBI to obtain a FISA warrant against Trump campaign advisor Carter Page.
In turn, the FISA warrant was used by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein to form Mueller’s special counsel.
In short, a dossier funded by Hillary Clinton began the chain reaction that led to Robert Mueller’s investigation.
And yet, there are still some figures in the Republican Party working to protect Mueller.
