Nancy Pelosi’s ultimate goal is to impeach Donald Trump.
For months, Speaker Pelosi has laid the groundwork to make this dream a reality.
But then Nancy Pelosi got the extremely bad news that turned her life into a nightmare.
Democrats made getting their hands on Donald Trump’s tax returns the lynchpin in their impeachment plans.
Even though Donald Trump is under no obligation to release his tax returns, Democrats and their allies in the fake news media floated conspiracy theories and ugly gossip as to why the President kept his tax returns private.
President Trump even stated back during the campaign that his taxes were under audit which prevented him from making them public.
That did not matter to Democrats.
House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal dispatched a letter to IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig requesting six years-worth of Trump’s income tax returns.
Democrats cited an obscure 1920s law that allows the Ways and Means chair to request any individual’s tax returns.
But the catch is there has to be a policy reason.
Neal claimed it was because Trump said he was under audit and so his committee wanted to perform oversight to ensure the IRS was conducting the audit according to proper procedure.
Republicans – as well as many legal experts – laughed this excuse out of the building.
The Democrats only want President Trump’s tax returns in hopes of finding impeachable offenses or, short of that, digging up political dirt to embarrass President Trump as he runs for re-election in 2020.
Acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney took this political harassment head-on during an interview on ‘Fox News Sunday.’
Mulvaney doubled down on President Trump’s lawyers’ letter to the Treasury Department instructing the agency to refuse the Democrats politically motivated demand for his tax returns.
Journalist Bill Hemmer pressed Mulvaney on if the Democrats would succeed in their quest to get their hands on the President’s tax returns.
“Never. Nor should they,” Mulvaney shot back.
The Chief of Staff also pointed out that Trump did not make his tax returns public in 2016 and voters had their chance to render judgment then and there.
“Keep in mind that that’s an issue that was already litigated during the election,” Mulvaney explained to Hemmer. “Voters knew the president could have given his tax returns, they knew that he didn’t, and they elected him anyway, which is, of course, what drives the Democrats crazy.”
Requesting Donald Trump’s tax returns will end up in the dustbin like all the other supposed Trump “scandals.”
Russian collusion. Obstruction of justice. The Emoluments Clause. And now his tax returns.
These are all fake scandals invented by the Democrats and fake news media to try and overturn the results of the 2016 election.
And President Trump, his lawyers, and his top advisors have made it clear they will fight to the end to make sure the left-wing press and the Democrat Party don’t get to exercise a veto over the American people’s choice at the ballot box.
