It has been a rough year for Nancy Pelosi.
After failing to defeat Trump on almost every battle they’ve fought in 2019, she just got hit with another round of devastating news.
And this time, it could mark the end of her career if this deal with Trump falls through.
Nancy Pelosi thought 2019 would mark the beginning of the end of Donald Trump and a return to her own preeminence in Washington DC as the ultimate power broker.
But so far, she’s only been following the President’s lead, failing to stop him on the most important agenda items of his presidency and leaving her own party fuming at her failures to rein in Donald Trump.
To make matters worse for Pelosi, she’s even failed to quell talk of impeaching the President, as more and more Democrats jump onboard that bandwagon even while she privately fears that impeachment could bring about the Democrats’ destruction in the upcoming 2020 elections.
Now, Pelosi is once again on the losing end of a political battle that could prove to bring about the end of her political career.
Breitbart reports, “President Donald Trump admitted Sunday his decision to stall deportation for illegal immigrants in order for Democrats to work out a deal would probably not work.”
At first glance, the decision to halt ICE’s planned ramping up of deportations across the country seems like a victory for Pelosi that would motivate her far-left base at a time when Democrats desperately need a political victory.
But the reality isn’t quite as simple as that for the Speaker of the House.
If this deal collapses, all the President needs to do is give the order to resume the original plan.
And the result of that would be yet another humiliating defeat for the House Democratic Caucus at a time when they’re trying to show the country they can govern in a different direction than what the President has been pushing for these past two years.
Trump is in the middle of executing a masterstroke of political strategy unlike anything seen in recent months.
And all it takes is for the Democrats to walk away from the negotiating table for them to look like the losers in this ongoing legislative battle.
Trump himself is even publicly stating that it’s unlikely that any agreement with the Democrats will be struck.
“I want to give the Democrats every last chance to quickly negotiate simple changes to Asylum and Loopholes. This will fix the Southern Border, together with the help that Mexico is now giving us. Probably won’t happen, but worth a try,” Trump tweeted on Sunday. “Two weeks and big Deportation begins!”
Pelosi’s weakness is already showing as well, which is why the Speaker thanked the President for delaying the ICE raids over the weekend.
“Mr. President, delay is welcome. Time is needed for comprehensive immigration reform. Families belong together,” Pelosi wrote.
Only time will tell whether or not a deal can be struck, but if the agreement falls through, it seems unlikely there’s anything the Democrats can do to stop the President from moving forward with his original plan.
