Nancy Pelosi’s reputation as a master strategist firmly in control of her own destiny is about to collapse.
It could be her final humiliation in office.
And Nancy Pelosi got blindsided by one turn of events that will send her into retirement.
Crime waves sweeping major American cities run by Democrats threaten the party’s congressional majorities in the 2022 midterm election.
Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco admitted murders were up double-digits.
“It is staggering. It is sobering,” Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco stated at the Police Executive Research Forum. “And it’s something that DOJ is committed to do all we can to reverse what are profoundly troubling trends.”
The White House began to panic and announced Joe Biden would deliver remarks to the nation on his plan to address violence in Democrat-run cities spiraling out of control.
“Yes, there need to be reforms of police systems across the country. The president is a firm believer in that,” White House press secretary Jen Psaki announced. “But there are also steps he can take as president of the United States to help address and hopefully reduce that crime. A big part of that, in his view, is putting in place gun safety measures … using the bully pulpit but also using levers at his disposal as president.”
But Biden’s proposed remedy of new gun control executive orders is bad news for the party’s chances in next November’s elections.
Biden will also announce a new task force to grab guns as the centerpiece of his anti-crime agenda.
The Associated Press reports:
In a speech on Wednesday, Biden is to unveil a series of executive orders aimed at reducing violence, and he will renew his calls for Congress to pass gun legislation, aides said. Ahead of the speech, the Justice Department announced new strike forces aimed at tackling gun trafficking in five cities.
The White House also planned to convene a meeting Wednesday with Attorney General Merrick Garland; the Democratic mayors of Baltimore and Miami-Dade County and the Republican mayor of Rapid City, South Dakota; the Democratic attorney general of New Jersey; the police chief in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and community activists. White House staff members have also been in touch with legislators and congressional staff.
Murders and other violent crimes are not skyrocketing in Democrat-run cities because of guns.
Democrats spent all of 2020 attacking police as systemically racist killers out to hunt down young black men.
In addition to demonizing the police, major American cities like Los Angeles and New York sought to slash police budgets in order to appease “defund the police” advocates.
Democrats sought to confront rising crime in the mid-1990s by passing a so-called “assault weapons” ban.
During the 2020 campaign Biden bragged that he “beat the NRA” when President Clinton signed then-Senator Joe Biden’s so-called “assault weapons” ban into law.
But that gun grab helped generate the grassroots opposition that led to the Republican sweep that ousted Democrat majorities in the House of Representatives and the Senate.
And now Joe Biden risks a replay of that route by putting gun control at the forefront of his plans to address rising murder rates in Democrat-run cities.
