Donald Trump got some bad news.
Democrats think they can force him from office early.
And Nancy Pelosi hit Mike Pence with this threat that he had 24 hours to do one awful thing.
In a letter to her caucus, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that she would give Vice President Mike Pence an ultimatum that he had 24 hours to convene the Cabinet and invoke the 25th Amendment to remove President Trump from power or Democrats would proceed with impeachment.
Speaker Pelosi outrageously claimed President Trump serving in office until the end of his term on January 20 was a threat to the Republic.
“In protecting our Constitution and our Democracy, we will act with urgency, because this President represents an imminent threat to both,” Speaker Pelosi wrote.
Pelosi then outlined her threat.
“We are calling on the Vice President to respond within 24 hours,” Pelosi added. “Next, we will proceed with bringing impeachment legislation to the Floor.”
The following day Democrats introduced a resolution of one article of impeachment claiming President Trump incited insurrection at the Capitol.
“In all this, President Trump gravely endangered the security of the United States and its institutions of Government,” the resolution stated. “He threatened the integrity of the democratic system, interfered with the peaceful transition of power, and imperiled a coequal branch of Government. He thereby betrayed his trust as President, to the manifest injury of the people of the United States.”
There is no indication Vice President Mike Pence will betray Donald Trump and try and stage a last minute coup to force him from office before the President’s term expires.
That means a second impeachment and ensuing Senate trial is all but assured.
Vice President Mike Pence wants to run for President in 2024.
Pence will almost certainly launch a White House bid if Donald Trump does not seek a second term three years from now.
But the grassroots of the GOP overwhelmingly supports President Trump.
Rank-and-file Republicans do not believe the President incited a riot and large numbers of the party faithful believe this is just another attempt by the left to punish Donald Trump for winning the 2016 election.
If Vice President Pence moved to invoke the 25th Amendment against President Trump his political career would be over in an instant.
President Trump announced he was committed to a peaceful transition of power and would leave office when his term expires on January 20.
Republican voters would never forgive Vice President Pence if he caved in to Nancy Pelosi’s demand and led a mutiny to remove President Trump from office.
