Donald Trump showed up in the House of Representatives to deliver his third State of the Union address.
What happened at the conclusion left Americans speechless.
And that’s because Nancy Pelosi insulted Trump at the State of the Union. This is why it will backfire.
When Donald Trump entered the House chamber, he was already facing a hostile Democrat party.
Congressional Democrats impeached President Trump and tried to remove him from office.
When the President walked to the House floor to deliver his speech he handed Pelosi a copy as is customary.
After the President handed Pelosi the speech he turned around and missed seeing Pelosi extend her hand.
The fake news media immediately played it up as a “snub” that was the President exacting revenge for Pelosi impeaching him.
During the speech Democrats booed, jeered and chanted at the President in an outrageous lack of civility.
These were some of the events that “disgusted” Democrats – the President surprised a wife and child with their father returning from combat, awarding the Presidential Medal of Freedom to Rush Limbaugh and giving a minority child a college scholarship.
Democrats hate this President so much they couldn’t even celebrate these moments.
When Republican Congressman Joe Wilson shouted “you lie” at Barack Obama after Obama claimed in a speech to Congress that Obamacare would not cover illegal aliens, Democrats smeared Wilson as a racist and he was forced to apologize.
In contrast, Pelosi never discouraged her fellow Democrats’ boorish behavior.
And after the speech was over Pelosi provided Democrats their viral moment of “resistance” when the Speaker stood and dramatically tore up her copy of Trump’s speech in front of the cameras.
Pelosi told her allies in the fake news media that tearing up the speech was a more polite response than “the alternatives.”
After the event Pelosi put out a lengthy statement claiming the President’s State of the Union address was a “manifesto of mistruths.”
“The manifesto of mistruths presented in page after page of the address tonight should be a call to action for everyone who expects truth from the President and policies worthy of his office and the American people. The American people expect and deserve a President to have integrity and respect for the aspirations for their children,” Pelosi wrote.
Pelosi used her statement to push the Democrat message that their party is stronger on healthcare and that Donald Trump wants to deny Americans with pre-existing conditions health coverage.
That will be the Democrats’ central campaign message in 2020.
But Pelosi’s temper tantrum and tearing up the President’s speech is going to be the only takeaway for the American people.
And it could backfire.
When the impeachment inquiry in the House started, Gallup found President Trump’s approval rating at 39 percent.
By the time the impeachment trial wrapped up in the first week of February, Gallup found the President’s approval surging to 40 percent.
Pelosi’s continued “resistance” could only further be sure to consolidate the President’s support ahead of his re-election campaign.
