Democrats thought they had all the momentum in the 2020 campaign.
But soon a crisis emerged that threatened to force the wheels to come off their effort to defeat Donald Trump.
And Nancy Pelosi was asked this question that left her frozen in terror.
Led by Nancy Pelosi, Democrats unveiled the “Justice in Policing Act.”
This sweeping law was the Democrat effort to federalize local police to put them under the control of government bureaucrats.
Pelosi seized on George Floyd’s death and boasted that his murder at the hands of four police officers handed the Democrats a golden opportunity to remake America into a socialist nation.
“The martyrdom of George Floyd gave the American experience a moment of national anguish as we grieve for the black Americans killed by police brutality today. This moment of national anguish is being transformed into a movement of national action as Americans from across the country peacefully protest to demand an end to injustice,” Pelosi exclaimed.
“Today, with the justice and policing at the Congress, Congress is standing with those fighting for justice and taking action,” the Speaker of the House added.
Pelosi doubled down in an interview on MSNBC.
The Speaker of the House stated, “We have a golden opportunity. This martyrdom has given us ability to rise to the occasion to remember others who sadly lost their lives to brutality and remember the other law enforcement there who take pride in their life and there to keep the Americans safe.”
Pelosi again pitched the Democrats’ bill as the solution to the supposedly “racist” police that targeted black Americans for abuse.
“So I believe this is an opportunity. We will miss the opportunity if we didn’t take advantage of it, and show a way, racial profiling, chokeholds, the doctrine of, all of the issues we deal with in the legislation will make a difference, a concrete difference, in how we respect people,” Pelosi concluded.
But there was one question Pelosi refused to answer.
Reporters asked Pelosi if she supported defunding the police.
This question became the dominant issue in American politics after the Minneapolis City Council announced they had a veto-proof majority to disband the city’s police department following the riots where thugs and criminals burned and looted the city.
Activists in Washington, D.C. also painted “defund the police” next to the Black Lives Matter mural Mayor Muriel Bowser painted in the streets outside the White House.
Pelosi and her fellow Democrats know defunding the police is a fringe position that repels swing voters.
But Pelosi also knows that the voters Democrats need to turnout in 2020 – young Americans and especially young black voters – are the ones supporting the ludicrous idea to eliminate the police.
Pelosi is betting that she can remain silent on this topic and wait for the storm to fade.
But President Trump and the Republicans will be sure to hammer the Democrats on this issue every single day to make sure it stays in the headlines.
