While Nancy Pelosi kept control of the House of Representatives this year, cracks are beginning to show.
And now, with all eyes beginning to move to the 2022 elections, Democrats are in full-blown panic.
And there’s one reason why Pelosi could end up being thrown out of office in two years.
When the dust settled after the 2020 elections, it was clear that Democrats were on the verge of losing control of the House of Representatives.
While the party ultimately kept control of the chamber, Pelosi’s majority was badly shaken, and Democrats are now panicking about what will lay around the corner when the House comes up for election again in 2022.
All signs currently point to the next election being nothing short of a political bloodbath for Democrats.
First, should Joe Biden actually prevail over Donald Trump in this year’s contentious presidential election, history won’t be on his side when he takes office in January.
For over a century, the President’s party has suffered in midterm elections, sometimes catastrophically so.
If Biden ultimately becomes the 46th President, it could spell disaster for Democrats in the House, in a similar way to how Republicans lost control of the chamber in 2018 during the midterm elections under President Trump.
But perhaps more importantly, redistricting from the 2020 census will have taken place by 2022, meaning that all congressional lines in the House of Representatives will look radically different than they have been for the past decade.
This naturally means that Democrats in swing districts could end up being drawn into more favorable seats for Republicans, and vice versa.
But because Democrats are largely packed into major metropolitan centers, and control only 10% of Congress’s redistricting lines for the coming year, the party is expected to lose out badly when new maps are put into place for the 2022 elections.
All of this has left the Democratic Party in complete disarray.
PJ Media reports, “For a party that believes they got a House majority and a president elected, the Democrats are in total disarray. They were expected to do better. They thought they’d do better. The media was telling them they’d do better. Pollsters were telling them they’d do better. The voters said otherwise.”
Not only did Democrats fail to pick up the 10 to 15 seats most political pundits predicted they would win, but they nearly lost control of the entire chamber itself, only barely managing to hold on in several races that went to the party by extremely thin majorities.
Even so, Democrats are currently on track to lose perhaps 10 seats in the House of Representatives this year, a shift of as many as 25 races that have gone the opposite way of conventional political wisdom.
This has left Democrats panicking about the prospect of losing control of the chamber outright in 2022.
PJ Media concludes, “Recriminations began before the final results were in. Less radical Democrats pointed the finger at the radicals. The radicals said that all those red-state candidates should have run on socialized medicine, free college tuition, and the Green New Deal. The red-state Democrats just sighed and turned their eyes skyward in disbelief.”
Now, Democrats are looking at the real prospect of the next set of House elections resulting in Nancy Pelosi being thrown out of office as Speaker, this time for good.
