Republicans are beginning to fight back against liberal cancel culture.
Big Tech and the Democrats never saw it coming how the tables were about to be turned.
And now one of Nancy Pelosi’s worst lies could end up in a $100,000 per day fine.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki announced that the Biden administration supports Big Tech censoring conservatives in the name of “hate speech.”
Even though there is no legal doctrine for “hate speech”—and the court has ruled that government can’t block hateful groups like the KKK from making speeches—Democrats found a loophole by outsourcing censorship to the tech monopolies in Silicon Valley.
Democrats and fake news reporters thought their censorship regime was invincible due to the tech companies’ status as private entities.
But Florida Governor Ron DeSantis cited the state’s Unfair or Deceptive Acts or Practices as the basis for the proposed Transparency in Technology Act.
Under DeSantis’ proposed reform—which was supported by Florida’s Republican leadership in the legislature—tech companies would face a $100,000 fine per day if they banned a candidate from their platforms during an election.
This happened to Republican congressional candidate Laura Loomer in the 2020 cycle as text message, social media and a host of communications platforms banned her while allowing her Democrat opponent unlimited access to their platforms.
Governor DeSantis rightly argued this amounted to an illegal campaign contribution.
In the press conference, Governor DeSantis explained that his reforms would address the one-sided censorship against conservatives by punishing social media firms with daily fines if they engage in one-sided censorship.
“These platforms have changed from neutral platforms that provided Americans with the freedom to speak to enforcers of preferred narratives. Consequently, these platforms have played an increasingly decisive role in elections, and have negatively impacted Americans who dissent from orthodoxies favored by the Big Tech cartel.”
As an example, DeSantis cited social media companies amplifying Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats’ baseless claims that the Russians stole the 2016 election, but banned Donald Trump and other conservatives for claiming voter fraud cost Trump the 2020 contest.
“How many people tweeted in 2016, 17, 18, 19 and 20 that Russia stole the election for Trump?” DeSantis added. “That happened every day, thousands of times a day. (House Speaker) Nancy Pelosi said the election was taken from us by Russia. Did any of those people get de-platformed?”
“Obviously, the collusion was a conspiracy theory that was not based in fact. They did an exhaustive investigation and found squat, yet that was common practice to be able to say that,” Governor DeSantis continued.
Fighting back against Big Tech’s anti-conservative censorship will quickly become one of the defining issues over the next four years.
And Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis just threw down a very big marker.
