The future of the Supreme Court could be decided in the 2020 election.
Any retirements or shifts among the Justices could alter the balance of power on the court for a generation.
And now this Supreme Court Justice set off alarm bells with a 2020 decision.
Millions of Americans believe one of Barack Obama’s greatest mistakes was putting radical leftist Sonia Sotomayor on the Supreme Court.
Many citizens believed Sotomayor revealed herself as a racist when she claimed during a 2001 speech at the University of California School of Law at Berkley that as a “wise Latina” she would reach better and more just decisions than a white man.
Since the Senate confirmed her in 2009, Sotomayor has been a robotic rubber stamp for the radical left agenda on every single issue.
Sotomayor doesn’t so much decide cases as vote the Democrat Party agenda.
But now Sotomayor is stepping up from merely carrying out a partisan agenda to becoming an attack dog for the left.
The Supreme Court recently handed down a stay along five to four ideological lines that lifted a lower court’s hold on the Trump administration’s public charge rule.
The case should not have even generated controversy in the first place.
One way the Trump administration tried to make the immigration system work for Americans was to enforce the public charge rule.
Congress first put the public charge rule on the books in the 1882 Immigration Act which denied entry to foreign aliens that would be “unable to take care of himself or herself without becoming a public charge.”
President Clinton expanded on the public charge rule with the 1996 Immigration Reform and Responsibility Act.
Donald Trump was not exercising some tyrannical power by implementing a rule that would deny a green card to foreigners that the administration deemed were likely to end up on welfare.
The administration was merely enforcing the laws that were currently on the books.
Democrats – of course – sought to block this rule because they want as many government dependents in the country as possible because more people collecting welfare in America means a larger pool of potential voters Democrats can recruit to support their candidates.
Since the law was on the Trump administration’s side, the court’s conservative majority brushed aside lower court Obama judges trying to grind the administration’s agenda to a halt and allowed the public charge rule to proceed.
Justice Sotomayor authored a stinging rebuke of the court’s conservative majority accusing them of being partisan actors.
“I fear that this disparity in treatment erodes the fair and balanced decision-making process that this Court must strive to protect,” Sotomayor ranted.
Critics contend Sotomayor’s jab at five conservative Justices was really aimed at Chief Justice John Roberts.
In past cases – such as the 2012 Obamacare and 2019 Census case over a question about citizenship – Roberts proved the left can win his vote by either bullying Roberts or appealing to his ego by having the so-called “mainstream” media claim Roberts is a “statesman” and “keeping politics out of the court” by agreeing with the left.
These tactics don’t always work.
But on one or two key cases a year, Roberts’ weakness and vanity make him susceptible to liberal pressure campaigns.
