Democrats across the country are scheming to exploit the coronavirus outbreak.
Some are taking their power grabs to unthinkable levels.
And one top Democrat threw down a coronavirus ultimatum that will lead to the unthinkable.
Bill de Blasio broke his own government’s recommendations when he hit the gym two weeks ago.
When people criticized his behavior, he said “I live in the regular world.”
This is in keeping with his total unawareness of the seriousness of the epidemic in New York and his total lack of preparation for the coronavirus until mid-March.
Since he himself has had trouble keeping to the regulations, it would be assumed that he would have mercy but instead he’s being so harsh that he’s crossing legal lines.
Ordering churches and synagogues to shut down is reasonable and a wise action.
President Trump said that gatherings should be limited to less than 10 people, and in New York City, which is the epicenter of the coronavirus in America, it makes sense that restrictions would be even tighter.
In cases of emergency, fundamental rights like the right to free movement and the right to gather in worship can be superseded by the need to stop the virus.
But Bill de Blasio says that any churches that gather during the coronavirus shutdown will be shut down permanently.
According to the Washington Examiner:
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio warned religious leaders that their places of worship could be shut down permanently if they did not follow the city’s order to pause services during the coronavirus pandemic.
“A small number of religious communities, specific churches and specific synagogues, are unfortunately not paying attention to this guidance even though it’s so widespread,” the New York Democrat said Friday at his daily press briefing.
“I want to say to all those who are preparing for the potential of religious services this weekend: If you go to your synagogue, if you go to your church and attempt to hold services after having been told so often not to, our enforcement agents will have no choice but to shut down those services,” he added.
De Blasio said that continued resistance of authorities to close religious services could mean a permanent shutdown.
“If that does not happen, they will take additional action up to the point of fines and potentially closing the building permanently,” he said.
One real danger in the coronavirus pandemic is that the Democrats will try to continue their authoritarian dominance of America after the threat of the virus is gone.
This is just what Bill de Blasio says he is planning on doing.
What he said was just as bad as if he said that if groups of friends gather in defiance of his order, he’d fine them so excessively that he’d take away their houses.
The First Amendment prohibits the government from interfering with the free exercise of religion and the right of the people to peaceably assemble.
Bill de Blasio is threatening to try and permanently take away First Amendment rights if people don’t obey him.
People do need to listen to the government’s recommendations on social distancing and not put themselves and their communities at risk.
Still, Bill de Blasio’s actions are the actions of a bully who is looking to shift the blame to a few religious organizations and make them the scapegoats for his own huge failings.
