Donald Trump is still fighting a battle with Never Trump Republicans.
That’s because they refuse to accept the results of the 2016 election.
And this RINO traitor just took one big step to defeat Trump in 2020.
Utah Senator Mitt Romney has effectively endorsed a primary challenge to President Trump in the upcoming 2020 presidential election.
Trump is seen by many to have a lock on the Republican nomination for a second four-year term, but he still has to go through the primary process to formally win re-nomination.
And that means that other candidates can at least theoretically challenge Trump for the GOP bid.
While most potential candidates have announced their intentions to not run against Trump or stated that they support him for re-election, one Republican is planning to challenge the President.
Bill Weld, the former Governor of Massachusetts and Libertarian Party Vice-Presidential nominee in 2016, is launching a primary challenge to Trump.
And Romney is supporting him.
Breitbart reports, “Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) said in an interview with Politico Friday that Republican presidential primary challenger Bill Weld is a ‘terrific guy.’”
“In an interview with Politico, the former failed Republican presidential candidate claimed he supports the president more often than not, despite Romney’s many instances of fighting the president’s America First agenda.”
“Although the former Massachusetts governor said he will not yet support Trump’s re-election campaign, Romney said the president has essentially secured the nomination; however, he did praise Trump’s GOP challenger, Bill Weld, as a ‘terrific guy.’”
This isn’t the first time that Romney has betrayed Trump however.
“In March, Romney voted against President Donald Trump’s national emergency resolution to build a wall along the southern border, although he claimed that decision did not amount to a vote ‘against border security.’ Sen. Romney served as one of the 12 Senate Republicans to vote against the national emergency,” adds Breitbart.
Romney also took to the leftist Washington Post to pen a massive rebuke of Trump’s presidency back in December, calling Trump’s performance in the White House as failing to rise to the task of the Office of the President.
And Romney has continued to buck with Trump and the rest of the Republican Party ever since he took office at the beginning of the year.
Romney’s latest attack on Trump, however, may have just backfired, because his own fellow Republican Senators are turning on him.
“One of the reasons I ran is because it’s no longer business as usual, and to me, Mitt Romney would epitomize business as usual and the old way of governing,” said Indiana Senator Mike Braun.
“Many people were shaken by the fact that there is a novel approach and a new style. Thank goodness, because what we had is dismal,” Braun added.
As the months pass by leading up to the first primary races of 2020, the likelihood that Romney will openly endorse Bill Weld over Trump will almost certainly go up.
And with these new comments, it’s clear that Romney is working against Trump’s re-election.
