Trump supporters are furious.
The President has repeatedly called for an end to Robert Mueller’s rigged witch hunt.
But one Washington Republican just stabbed Trump in the back by allying himself with the special counsel.
Florida Senator Marco Rubio was a guest on Fox News Sunday.
Host Chris Wallace asked him about the call by President Trump – and many of his supporters – for Robert Mueller to bring his investigation to a close.
Senator Rubio gave an answer that did not please Trump supporters.
Rubio declared,
“My position based on everything I know about this case is the following. I believe it’s in the best interest of the president and of the United States of America and the American people is for that investigation to run the course for all the truth to come out, and I think it’s the best thing that could happen for him and I think it’s the best thing that could happen for the country.”
Rubio endorses the idea of an open-ended witch hunt—which has already strayed far beyond Russia’s alleged election meddling in 2016.
President Trump and his supporters are furious that Mueller’s probe has accomplished nothing except prosecuting individuals simply for working on the Trump campaign.
But then Rubio undercut himself when he spoke about the basis of the probe.
“Obviously he is annoyed by that investigation continuing to go on because it’s about him and he believes and has said repeatedly and emphatically that he did not collude with the Russians. I’m limited to what I can say because the Senate is still doing our investigation but I am comfortable in saying this if there was evidence, strong evidence of collusion, I guarantee it would have been leaked by now. But let’s wait for the process to play itself out. I think that’s what should happen. Mueller shall continue and finish his work and the truth should come out and I think that’s in the best interest of everyone,” the Florida Republican concluded.
If there is no evidence of collusion, then Mueller is indeed conducting a witch hunt.
The investigation was premised on the idea that the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians in 2016.
But no Americans have been charged with conspiring with Russia.
In fact, both of Mueller’s indictments against certain Russians for election meddling and hacking specifically stated that no Americans had committed criminal acts in either case.
It is apparent that Robert Mueller intends to investigate President Trump until he discovers anything he can use as grounds to recommend Congress impeach Trump.
Rubio – because he sits on the Senate Intelligence Committee – knows there is no evidence of collusion with the Russian government.
So it’s outrageous that Rubio would support an open-ended investigation designed solely to overthrow the President of the United States.
Do you think Robert Mueller’s investigation should end immediately?
