Robert Mueller is hell-bent on destroying Donald Trump.
And after two years, he’s hoping to finish his mission in 2019.
But one man is still standing in Mueller’s way as he prepares to unleash his investigation on the President.
Eric Dubelier isn’t the most well-known man in Washington, but Robert Mueller certainly knows who he is.
A former federal prosecutor, Dubelier has grown to become one of Mueller’s sharpest critics as the Special Counsel works to destroy the President.
Having served under the Justice Department he usually refers to the DOJ as the “real Justice Department”, a jab at Mueller’s quasi-independent investigation which has dragged on in its mission to ruin Trump.
Dubelier has called Mueller’s investigation a joke, accusing Mueller of inventing a “make-believe crime” by alleging that the Trump campaign colluded with the Russian government to win the 2016 election.
For months, Dubelier has fought against Mueller behind the scenes, representing the Russian firm Concord Management and Consulting, which Mueller alleges worked in conjunction with Putin and Trump to steal the election from Hillary Clinton.
The Washington Times reports, “Mr. Dubelier charges that the Mueller team violated the confidentially of Concord’s counter evidence while hiding documents Concord needs for its defense.”
“The prosecutor [Mueller’s team] wants to ‘whisper secrets to the judge,’ Mr. Dubelier says, as Mr. Mueller is calculating the ‘short-term political value of a conviction’ and not worrying about an appeals court defeat years later,” adds the Times.
Dubelier has criticized Mueller by bringing up past botched cases against the prosecutor, including wrongful convictions in the past which the Supreme Court overturned.
Where other groups, especially Russian companies, have refused to fight Mueller in his investigation, Concord has, and Dubelier has spent most of 2018 fighting Mueller tooth and nail on nearly every aspect of his investigation into his client, and the President himself.
In doing so, he has earned a reputation as a fierce and thorough lawyer, whom Mueller dreads to face in the courtroom.
Dubelier issued a statement about the Mueller probe at the end of December when it became apparent that Mueller plans to wrap up his work soon.
“The Special Counsel has made up a crime that has never been prosecuted before in the history of the United States, and now seeks to make up secret …which have never been employed in any reported criminal case not involving classified discovery,” Dubelier stated.
Dubelier’s defense of his client is also indirectly helping President Trump, as he works to dismantle Mueller’s investigation from a different angle.
And he’s winning against Mueller.
The longer Mueller’s case drags on against this Russian company, the less time he has to deal with targeting the President.
And the longer Dubelier continues to unravel Mueller’s ineptitude in the work he does, the more it serves to delegitimize any attacks he will level against Trump once the Special Counsel does reveal his findings.
With 2019 set to become the year Mueller finishes his work, it remains to be seen what conclusions the Special Counsel will draw and when he will make his information available to the public.
But Mueller continues to be hounded in his efforts to tie Trump to the Russians by this former federal prosecutor that has proven to be his equal on the legal battles unfolding in D.C.
