Robert Mueller spent nearly two years building up for his big moment.
The Special Counsel was supposed to send Congress into impeachment proceedings with his report.
But then Mueller got some bad news from the last place he ever expected.
Mueller’s investigation consumed media oxygen.
Cable news networks, newspapers, social media sites and blogs all breathlessly reported every development in the Mueller probe no matter how big or small.
Every time Mueller filed an indictment that failed to charge anyone for conspiring with Russia, so-called “journalists” proclaimed that Mueller was not revealing all he knew.
They claimed Mueller would deliver his report exposing Donald Trump and his campaign aides as treasonous conspirators with Russia sometime down the road.
But now the end is in sight.
And Mueller’s former boosters in the media are changing their tune.
“Reporters” and left-wing pundits are now treating the Mueller report as an afterthought.
Here are just two examples (I guarantee there are many, many more) of Mariotti previously touting Mueller's capacity to establish "collusion." Now that no collusion charges appear forthcoming, Mariotti wants to make Mueller out to be some poor, helpless soul 😂😂 pic.twitter.com/4WpJ7en6LE

Members of the media moved the goal posts and worked to erase their previous hysterical Mueller coverage in order to avoid accountability.
They spent two years spreading fake news, lies, and misinformation about Trump and Russia and now want people to pretend they never saw or read those reports.
This desperate attempt to preserve what little credibility the fake news outlets have left will fail.
Mueller will deliver a final report.
But it won’t accuse anyone of colluding with the Russians.
That will force a reckoning for the media.
If news outlets had any honesty and accountability, they would compare their previous reporting on the investigation to Mueller’s final report and offer their audience a rundown of how their reporting matched up with what the special counsel’s office actually found.
But there is little chance that will happen.
Networks and newspapers would have to fire countless commentators who routinely misled their audience in pursuit of an anti-Trump narrative.
The truth was never the goal these outlets pursued.
Taking down Donald Trump was the goal.
And they thought Mueller – with his supposed “pristine” record from the running the FBI – would act as the blunt instrument to destroy Donald Trump’s Presidency.
Ever since the media and the FBI colluded to take down Richard Nixon, so-called “journalists” dream of replicating that feat every time a Republican sits in the Oval Office.
They tried to do it with Ronald Reagan and the Iran-Contra affair, and later with George W. Bush and the Iraq War.
Both attempts failed, but the media saw Trump as a more inviting target since he lacked the institutional support from influential quarters of American life and the Republican Party establishment.
But those dreams collapsed once it became apparent that Mueller wouldn’t deliver the goods on President Trump.
The idea of Russian collusion ended up being a Democrat hoax – just as Donald Trump claimed it to be.
