The fake news media paints special counsel Robert Mueller as a paragon of virtue.
But the reality is Mueller has been hiding a terrible secret.
And now that Mueller was caught red-handed doing something shady, he may never be able to recover.
Donald Trump and millions of his supporters have pointed to the dyed-in-the-wool Democrats Mueller hired as evidence that his investigation was tainted from the start.
But no one knew the half of it.
A now that a devastating Department of Justice Inspector General report has dropped, Mueller is having trouble explaining the shady conduct they uncovered.
In addition to the pro-Hillary prosecutors on staff, Mueller brought on anti-Trump FBI agent Peter Strzok to help with the probe.
Strzok gained notoriety for signing off on the FBI’s Russia investigation and for sending text messages to FBI lawyer Lisa Page, with whom he was having an affair. In those text messages, Strzok said that “they”—meaning the FBI—would “stop” Trump, and referred to the Russia investigation an “insurance policy” against Trump winning.
Mueller bounced Strzok from the team once the existence of those messages became public.
The Inspector General had been investigating the possibility that political bias infected the FBI’s Russia and Clinton email probes, but then hit a significant roadblock.
The IG reports that Mueller’s team had wiped Strzok’s phone clean and investigators had no ability to retrieve the texts Strzok sent during his time working for Mueller:
The OIG was told that the DOJ issued iPhone previously assigned to Strzok had been re-issued to another FBI agent following Strzok’s departure from the SCO. The SCO obtained the iPhone from that individual and provided it to the 010. CYB ER obtained a forensic extraction of the iPhone previously assigned to Strzok; however. this iPhone had been reset to factory settings and was reconfigured for the new user to whom the device was issued. It did not contain data related to Strzok’s use of the device. SCO’s Records Officer told the 010 that as part of the office’s records retention procedure, the officer reviewed Strzok’s DOJ issued iPhone after he returned it to the SCO and determined it contained no substantive text messages.
In addition, the IG also reported that Mueller’s office could not locate Lisa Page’s phone.
Critics immediately accused Mueller’s office of funny business.
Given the political dynamite of the text messages Strzok and Page previously sent each other, Mueller explaining that they erased the contents of Strzok’s phone and couldn’t find Page’s phone smelled like a cover-up.
Mueller’s investigation is already suffering from a crisis of credibility.
At least one witness has alleged that Mueller’s pit bull prosecutors pressured him into giving false testimony.
And despite digging under the hood of the 2016 election for nearly 18 months, Mueller has produced zero evidence of Russian collusion.
Now Mueller is faced with difficult questions about why Peter Strzok was hired. Did Mueller seek him out because of his anti-Trump hatred? And why did the special counsel’s office make sure to destroy all the evidence of his communications?
