The Mueller report is out and Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats are plotting their next move.
For months, Speaker Pelosi begged her caucus to hold their fire until Mueller’s work was complete.
And then Robert Mueller dropped a surprise about impeachment that Nancy Pelosi never expected.
Robert Mueller cleared President Trump and his campaign of charges that they colluded with the Russians during the 2016 Presidential campaign.
But his investigation also probed the allegations that President Trump obstructed justice by firing disgraced former FBI Director James Comey and taking other steps to impede the Russia probe.
Attorney General William Barr announced in a press conference that Mueller chose not to file any charges of obstruction of justice against President Trump.
“After carefully reviewing the facts and legal theories outlined in the report, and in consultation with the Office of Legal Counsel and other Department lawyers, the Deputy Attorney General and I concluded that the evidence developed by the Special Counsel is not sufficient to establish that the President committed an obstruction-of-justice offense,” Attorney General Barr declared.
To many Americans, that should have ended Speaker Pelosi and the Democrats schemes to nullify the results of the 2016 Presidential election.
But Robert Mueller tucked a stink bomb inside his final report.
Mueller and his team of Democrat pit bull prosecutors explicitly invited Congress to take up the obstruction of justice crusade and impeach President Trump.
“With respect to whether the President can be found to have obstructed justice by exercising his powers under Article II of the Constitution, we concluded that Congress has the authority to prohibit a President’s corrupt use of his authority in order to protect the integrity of the administration of justice,” Mueller wrote.
Mueller and his all-star roster of Democrat investigators knew that every action President Trump took was legal.
But the special counsel also knows that impeachment is a political and not a legal question, so Democrats don’t need a crime or criminal activity in order to proceed.
And it was just the opening Nancy Pelosi was waiting for.
With Congress away on Easter recess, Speaker Pelosi fired off a “Dear Colleague” letter inviting Democrats to a caucus-wide conference call to plot their next step.
“As we continue to review this document, we will have more to report and will update you on the next steps that must be taken,” Pelosi explained. “The Caucus is scheduling a conference call for Monday to discuss this grave matter.”
The Speaker’s letter continued, “This report includes several alarming findings, including that ‘the Russian government interfered in the 2016 presidential election in sweeping and systematic fashion.’ It also explicitly states that the President’s campaign took actions with an expectation that ‘it would benefit electorally from information stolen and released through Russian efforts.’”
“In his summary letter and press conference, Attorney General Barr presented a conclusion that the President did not obstruct justice,” Pelosi added. “The Mueller report appears to directly undercut that claim.”
Despite the Democrats trying to poo-poo any impeachment talk, many political observers expect for Democrats to follow the passions of their base and take Mueller up on his invitation to open an impeachment inquiry into President Trump.
