The contenders are already drawing the battle lines in the 2024 presidential election.
Everyone knew this confrontation was inevitable.
And Ron DeSantis said five words to Donald Trump that just changed everything.
Polls show Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis are the top two contenders for the Republican presidential nomination.
Prior to the midterm elections Trump fired a shot across DeSantis’s bow claiming DeSantis should stay out of the 2024 race or else Trump would release damaging information on him and bestowed up DeSantis the derisive nickname “DeSanctimonious.”
Trump then put out a statement claiming DeSantis was an overrated governor and that without Trump’s help in 2018 DeSantis would be nowhere.
After the election when Republicans were looking for answers as to how everything went wrong a reporter asked DeSantis for his response to Trump’s comments.
DeSantis answered that he was used to attacks, pointing out how the liberal media lied about him on a daily basis.
“One of the things I’ve learned like and learned in this job is when you’re doing, when you’re leading, when you’re getting things done, you take incoming fire, that’s just the nature of it,” DeSantis stated.
“I roll out of bed in the morning, I’ve got corporate media outlets that have a spasm — just the fact that I’m getting up in the morning and it’s constantly attacking. And this is just what’s happened. I don’t think any governor got attacked, more particularly, by corporate media than me over my four-year term,” DeSantis continued.
DeSantis added that he romped to re-election by 20 points because he responded to the needs of voters by opposing COVID lockdowns and mandates, cracking down on illegal immigration, and fighting for parents’ rights in education.
“And really what matters is are you leading? Are you getting in front of issues? Are you delivering results for people? Are you standing up for folks? And if you do that, then none of that stuff matters,” DeSantis stated. “And that’s what we’ve done. We focused on results and leadership.”
DeSantis then alluded to Trump’s criticism with a brushback pitch of his own telling anyone who questioned him to “go check out the scoreboard” from the election.
Trump’s endorsed candidates for governor, senator and secretary of state lost 16 of 18 races.
DeSantis then described his “scoreboard” in Florida where his coattails ran down ballot making Florida one of the few states where the red wave hit.
“And it wasn’t just the best governor victory, of course, it was that, but we swept in. We swept in super majorities in the Florida Legislature. We have 85 Republicans out of 120 in our state house, we’ve never had that many before,” DeSantis said, further detailing the Sunshine State’s victories.
“We have 28 senators out of 40 that are Republicans — never had that many,” DeSantis declared.
DeSantis also pointed out that Florida now has 20 Republican members of Congress and that the GOP likely won its narrow majority in the House due to the fact that DeSantis forced the legislature to draw a fair map that accurately reflected Florida’s status as a red state.
Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis are the two frontrunners for the 2024 nomination.
And in a short period of time the two previewed how they plan to run against one another in the primary.
Polls show a massive surge of support for DeSantis after the election as many conservatives look to DeSantis’s leadership in turning Florida into a solid red state as the path for the future.
