Rush Limbaugh is the king of talk radio.
But on a recent broadcast Limbaugh left listeners stunned into silence.
And that’s because Rush Limbaugh just announced he has cancer. His next move will shock you.
Limbaugh ended a recent broadcast with the earth-shattering announcement that on January 20th doctors diagnosed him with advanced lung cancer.
“It’s a struggle for me because I had to inform my staff earlier today. I can’t escape… Even though people are telling me it’s not the way to look at it, I can’t help but feel that I’m letting everybody down with this. But the upshot is that I have been diagnosed with advanced lung cancer, diagnosis confirmed by two medical institutions back on January 20th. I first realized something was wrong on my birthday weekend, January 12th,” Limbaugh began.
Many listeners quickly assumed this meant Limbaugh would end his daily radio program.
However, Limbaugh went on to assure his audience that this did not mean he was retiring.
“So this has happened, and my intention is to come here every day I can and to do this program as normally and as competently and as expertly as I do each and every day, because that is the source of my greatest satisfaction professionally, personally. I’ve had so much support from family and friends during this that it’s just been tremendous. I told the staff today that I have a deeply personal relationship with God that I do not proselytize about,” Limbaugh added.
Rush went on to tell his fans that he had faith in his doctors that devised a treatment plan to combat this disease and that while he was taking a few days off, Limbaugh announced he hoped to be back on the air by the end of the week.
“But we’ve got a great bunch of doctors, a great team assembled. We’re at full-speed ahead on this, and it’s just now a matter of implementing what we are gonna be told later this week. So, I’ll be back here. I hope I’ll be back Thursday,” Limbaugh concluded.
As soon as Rush announced his cancer diagnosis the well wishes from politicians, fellow media personalities, supporters and even some rivals poured in.
In a week filled with big news – the Super Bowl, Iowa Caucus, State of the Union speech and expected acquittal vote of President Trump on articles of impeachment all took place in a four day span – Limbaugh’s announcement that he had lung cancer rated as just as big of a story as any of them.
That’s because Rush Limbaugh invented conservative media.
Limbaugh taking his radio show national in August 1988 paved the way for Fox News, the Drudge Report and every other right of center media outlet that exists today.
Rush’s impact on the American political and media landscape cannot be overstated.
