Donald Trump has been under assault from day one.
Journalists, celebrities, and Democrat politicians have attacked him from every angle to force his resignation or impeach him.
And that led Rush Limbaugh to ask the one question that is bad news for Donald Trump.
Limbaugh kicked off a segment of his top rated talk show by discussing the recent outburst by actor Robert DeNiro at the Tony awards.
While introducing a performance by Bruce Springsteen, DeNiro bellowed “F%^k Trump!” twice to a standing ovation from the Broadway celebrities.
Limbaugh noted that De Niro – and other Democrats – were escalating their attacks on the President, but that the GOP reacted with silence.
Not one Republican rose to Trump’s defense.
Limbaugh declared:
“I mean, the Republicans have a president, Donald Trump. A famous American actor just said F-you at the Tony Awards. Where is a statement of, not protest, not objection, but where is an official statement of what this kind of thing is, bad, not decent, not good, childish, what have you?”
The popular talk show host then proceeded to play a clip of a CNBC interview where Jeb Bush admitted he was willing to criticize President Trump.
Limbaugh explained that the reason Republicans constantly engage in the media’s calls to criticize the President is to win “credibility” from the press:
“All right, now, I’m gonna have to guess at what he’s talking about because this isn’t exactly what I thought it was. But it sounds like Jeb is saying when Trump goes over the line, we need to criticize him. We need not be afraid of criticizing Trump when he goes over the line. Okay, fine. But what does that tell us about the Republican establishment? Why is this so important? You know what the root of this is?
The root of this is 20 years old or maybe older. And it’s born of the belief the Republicans had that the media has cast us as racist, sexist, bigots, homophobes. And so we have to every day prove that we are not, meaning, we’re gonna accept the media premise. The media says we’re racist, sexist, bigot, homophobe, we’re gonna assume people believe it, and therefore our objective is to convince people that we’re not. And how do we do that? By criticizing us, by criticizing ourselves. That’s the magic.”
Of course the media never gives Republicans any credit for attacking the President.
When a Republican complies with their calls to trash President Trump, the media either claims it was insufficient or makes additional demands to bash Trump.
Establishment Republicans like Jeb Bush fall for this ploy because they live in the same bubble as liberal journalists.
They think these journalists represent a large segment of Americans and are terrified that negative coverage will sink their careers.
Of course it’s not true.
President Trump proved how powerless the so-called “mainstream” media really is with his historic victory in 2016, in spite of over 90 percent negative coverage in the press.
The Democrats are attacking Trump to destroy him politically and his party is not rising to his defense.
And this cowardly strategy of silence could easily depress GOP voter enthusiasm for the midterms.
GOP voters will be less likely to turn out and vote for down the ballot Republicans if they view them as unwilling to defend the President.
That would lead to a Democrat sweep and Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer launching impeachment proceedings next year.
