Democrats thought they held all the cards in the government shutdown fight.
But in one night, everything changed.
That’s because Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi stood in front of the TV cameras and all hell broke loose.
Democrats are in a panic.
Donald Trump threw them back on their heels with a primetime Oval Office address about the need for Congress to fund the border wall.
Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi scrambled to respond.
The Democrat leaders in Congress begged the networks for time to deliver a response.
Left-wing executives eagerly obliged.
It was a disaster.
They appeared in front of the American people and insisted the government shutdown that they initiated was “senseless.”
“I appreciate the opportunity to speak directly to the American people tonight about how we can end this shutdown and meet the needs of the American people. Sadly much of what we heard from President Trump throughout this senseless shutdown has been full of misinformation and even malice. The president has chosen fear. We want to start with the facts,” Pelosi ranted.
Pelosi then tried to argue that there is no crisis on the Southern border, but then said Democrats do support funding more border security, just not the wall.
Americans were left speechless at the incoherence of that argument.
Speaker Pelosi then whined, “The fact is on the very first day of this Congress, House Democrats passed Senate Republican legislation to reopen government and fund smart, effective border security solutions, but the president is rejecting these bipartisan bills which would reopen government over his obsession with forcing American taxpayers to waste billions of dollars on an expensive and ineffective wall, a wall he always promised Mexico would pay for.”
Schumer picked up where Pelosi left off and lied about the cause of the government shutdown.
“The President of the United States having failed to get Mexico to pay for his ineffective, unnecessary border wall, and unable to convince the Congress or the American people to foot the bill, has shut down the government. American democracy doesn’t work that way. We don’t govern by temper tantrum. No president should pound the table and demand he gets his way or else the government shuts down. Hurting millions of Americans who are treated as leverage.”
It’s the Democrats who closed down the government over a temper tantrum.
All Donald Trump is asking the Democrats to do is support policies they’ve voted for in the past.
Schumer, Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama all backed border fencing back in 2006.
But now Democrats believe they can destroy Donald Trump’s Presidency if they force him to capitulate on the wall.
However, they misjudged the President.
Trump shows no signs of giving in.
In fact, the Oval Office address was just the first step in Trump’s plan to win the funding for the wall.
His next move is a trip to Texas to tour the border and highlight the humanitarian and security crisis.
And finally, if Democrats fail to deliver the votes to fund the wall, Trump is considering declaring a state of emergency and ordering the military to build the wall.
Schumer and Pelosi’s disastrous televised response only emphasized the weakness of the Democrats position.
