Democrats have pinned their hopes on impeaching Trump over the Russian collusion narrative.
They are counting on special counsel Robert Mueller to deliver the goods so they can remove Trump from office.
But the real truth about any Russian collusion just emerged—and it blew up in the Democrats faces.
Democrats and the media have maintained for months that Trump associates colluded with the Russians in the cyber attacks on the DNC during the 2016 election.
They focused attention on longtime Trump advisor Roger Stone—a former Nixon operative who delights in being known for “dirty tricks.”
Stone had exchanged direct messages on Twitter with the hacker Guccifer 2.0 and tweeted that Clinton campaign chair John Podesta would “see his time in the barrel.”
Democrats and the press grasped at those thin reeds as evidence Stone was some kind of Russian agent.
But in closed-door testimony to the House Intelligence Committee, Stone denied any knowledge of Russian collusion.
He spoke to the press afterwards and proclaimed his innocence.
The Los Angeles Times reports:
“Republican political consultant Roger Stone testified Tuesday to a House committee investigating whether President Trump’s aides had improper contacts with Moscow during last year’s campaign.
Stone later denied to reporters that he had cooperated with Russian agents or operatives during the race, and said he knew of no one else who did so either.
“I am aware of no evidence whatsoever of collusion by the Russian state or anyone in the Trump campaign,” Stone said after he had appeared for nearly three hours in a closed-door session of the House Intelligence Committee.”
Stone’s comments matched those of Donald Trump, Jr. and Jared Kushner when they testified behind closed doors and denied any collusion with Russia.
The collusion narrative has completely collapsed and now all the investigators and Democrats have left to hang their hats on are $100,000 worth of Facebook ads allegedly purchased by the Russians between 2015 and 2017.
This ad-buy was a drop in the bucket compared to the billions of dollars spent on the Presidential campaign.
But it was their last dying gasp to try and find evidence that Trump officials had colluded with Russia on the ad placements and targeting.
However, this also collapsed.
The ads ran across the political spectrum and promoted Black Lives Matter and Hillary Clinton as well as the supposed ads that boosted Trump’s candidacy.
The Washington Post reports:
“The batch of more than 3,000 Russian-bought ads that Facebook is preparing to turn over to Congress shows a deep understanding of social divides in American society, with some ads promoting African-American rights groups including Black Lives Matter and others suggesting that these same groups pose a rising political threat, say people familiar with the covert influence campaign.
The Russian campaign — taking advantage of Facebook’s ability to simultaneously send contrary messages to different groups of users based on their political and demographic characteristics – also sought to sow discord among religious groups. Other ads highlighted support for Democrat Hillary Clinton among Muslim women.”
Trump has long maintained the collusion narrative is nothing but fake news.
The truth has proven to be on his side.
