Since day one of Trump’s campaign the political establishment has come after him.
It wasn’t just Democrats, but also Republicans in his own party.
And one of those anti-Trump Republicans just got shocking news that could end his political career.
Senator Jeff Flake (R-AZ) has been a darling of the media and the Democrats lately.
His bashing of Trump has gotten him a lot of love from the left.
But that love clearly isn’t translating into support.
A new poll released by the Democratic firm Public Policy Polling shows that Senator Flake’s polling is going down rapidly.
The latest poll numbers show that only 18% of Arizona voters approve of his performance.
Those numbers are brutal, especially for someone who is up for election in 2018.
As reported by Business Insider:
“The Republican push to overhaul the US healthcare system has taken a toll on Sen. Jeff Flake’s popularity, according to a new poll.
The poll, from the Democratic firm Public Policy Polling, found that the Arizona senator’s support of the GOP’s healthcare push had hurt voters’ opinions of him.
Overall, 52% of Arizona voters surveyed for the poll said they were less likely to vote for Flake in his 2018 reelection bid because of his vote in support of the various Republican plans. Twenty-six percent said they were more likely to vote for him because of the vote, and 20% said it made no difference.
Just 31% of those surveyed said they would vote for Flake if the election were held immediately, compared with 47% saying they would vote for a generic Democratic opponent. The poll also found that 62% of Arizonans disapproved of Flake’s performance, while only 18% approved. Just one Democrat, political newcomer Deedra Abboud, has entered the race to challenge Flake.”
Many are speculating that his lack of popularity has nothing to do with healthcare, but has to do with his “Never Trump” agenda.
While this drop in the polls is in the same period as Flake’s healthcare vote, it is also in the same period of the release of his new book, “Conscience of a Conservative”, which has been referred to as a Trump hit-piece.
David Brooks, an anti-Trump New York Times columnist, explains exactly what the book is about in his review:
“A thoughtful defense of traditional conservatism and a thorough assault on the way Donald Trump is betraying it.”
In short, it is an attack on President Trump and the work he has done in his first months in office.
Senator Flake is up for reelection in 2018, and while these numbers are terrible news for Flake, they are welcoming news to his primary challenger Kelli Ward.
Ward ran and lost against John McCain in the 2016 primary, but she is hopeful that the falling popularity of Flake will open her up for the Republican nomination.
The biggest difference between Ward and Flake is that Kelli Ward is a fervent Trump supporter, while Flake is a fervent anti-Trumper.
Do you think that Kelli Ward can win in a primary election against Sen. Jeff Flake?
