Florida Governor Ron DeSantis had a lot to say.
A criminal investigation blew up.
And this bombshell arrest forced Ron DeSantis to make a shocking confession.
The federal government filed a 19-count indictment against former Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum for conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
Prosecutors alleged Gillum and one of his political cronies steered donations to a political committee to themselves for personal use.
Both face 19 counts of wire fraud and conspiracy to commit wire fraud, each of which carries a maximum 20-year prison sentence. Gillum faces two additional charges of lying to investigators, each of which carries a maximum five-year sentence.
According to the indictment, the FBI began to sniff out the alleged scheme in 2016, when Gillum was mayor and undercover agents investigating corruption in the city were steered to him. The two are alleged to have used his position as mayor, as a progressive activist and then as a top candidate for governor to skim money from a variety of individual donors and nonprofit groups, fraudulently pretending to perform voter outreach or to fight for local government rights while pocketing the cash — even after his campaign for governor ended in 2018.
Back in 2018 the corporate media built up Andrew Gillum as the next Barack Obama when Gillum ran against DeSantis for the governorship of Florida.
The media lavished praise on Gillum despite the fact that it was known during that campaign that Gillum was already under FBI investigation for separate charges of influence peddling.
After losing the election to DeSantis, Gillum turned into a figure of massive scandal when police found Gillum allegedly drunk and passed out on a vomit-stained hotel room floor with an alleged male prostitute present.
Reporters asked DeSantis about the charges against Gillum during a press conference and DeSantis took the opportunity to chastise the media for openly rooting for Gillum during the 2018 campaign while refusing to properly vet Gillum.
“I would ask a lot of the media that propped him up whether they have any type of mea culpa on that,” DeSantis told reporters. “There were clearly a lot of issues there. If you looked under the hood you saw it.”
DeSantis added that had the media gotten their way and hoodwinked the voters into picking Gillum – with all his scandals and problems – Florida would be in completely different shape.
“What was presented to the public was that this guy was the second coming,” DeSantis continued. “If I had not won in 2018 this state would be in a much worse shape.”
That is very true.
As governor, Gillum would have followed Dr. Fauci’s edicts to lock down businesses, close schools, mandate masks and force Floridians to take the COVID vaccine in order to keep their job.
But since DeSantis won in the face of the media’s pro-Gillum propaganda campaign DeSantis was able to create what is known as the “free state of Florida.”
