Joe Biden claims he is running for re-election.
Key Democrats are not buying what Biden is selling.
And this smoking gun document showed when Democrats expect Joe Biden to step aside.
Joe Biden’s admission in private to Barack Obama that he plans to run for re-election is doing nothing to dissuade other Democrats from getting their ducks in a row to launch 2024 presidential campaigns.
Vermont socialist Senator Bernie Sanders finished as the runner-up in the 2016 and 2020 Democrat presidential primaries.
Hillary Clinton defeated Sanders in what many Sanders supporters believed was a rigged nominating process in 2016.
Biden bested Sanders in 2020 when the establishment closed ranks around Biden and pushed the other candidates out of the race after Sanders won the early nominating contests in New Hampshire and Nevada.
But Sanders has two functioning eyes so he can read polling data and observe Joe Biden’s cognitive decline.
And that’s why Sanders’ 2020 campaign manager Faiz Shakir circulated a memo among Sanders allies that Sanders was prepared to launch a third presidential campaign in 2024.
The Washington Post reported:
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is open to running for president in 2024 if President Biden declines to seek reelection, according to a campaign memo a top political adviser distributed to allies on Wednesday that was shared with The Washington Post.
“In the event of an open 2024 Democratic presidential primary, Sen. Sanders has not ruled out another run for president, so we advise that you answer any questions about 2024 with that in mind,” says the memo from Faiz Shakir, a close Sanders adviser who was his campaign manager when he ran in 2020.
The memo was shared by a person with direct knowledge of its contents on the condition of anonymity because it was not released publicly, and confirmed by a second person with direct knowledge of the contents.
Shakir’s memo suggests that Democrats do not actually believe Biden will run for re-election and that the Democrat primary will be wide open as opposed to a coronation for Kamala Harris.
There is good reason for Democrats to believe that to be the case.
A new Redfield and Wilton Strategies poll found Donald Trump leading Joe Biden 43 to 41 percent.
That poll also showed Trump leading Harris 45 to 39 percent.
Those margins were slightly better than a recent Harvard CAPS/Harris poll showing Trump holding a 47 to 41 percent advantage over Joe Biden and a 49 to 38 percent lead over Kamala Harris.
Democrats’ overriding goal is defeating Donald Trump and the left doesn’t particularly care which candidate is best suited to take on Trump.
With polls showing Biden and Harris running behind Donald Trump, Democrats like Bernie Sanders want everyone to know they are ready, willing, and able to run for president.
