Trey Gowdy is determined to get to the bottom of the scandal surrounding the leaking of classified intelligence.
These selective leaks have thrown the Trump administration off stride, damaged America’s national security and broke the law.
And Gowdy’s questions to FBI Director James Comey were bad news for Barack Obama.
In the entire scandal surrounding Russian election meddling there is one known crime – the unmasking of National Security Advisor Michael Flynn whose legitimate communications with the Russian Ambassador with intercepted.
This is a crime punishable by up to ten years in prison.
Gowdy questioned Director Comey on a list of suspects in the Obama administration who would have access to Flynn’s name from intercepted communications.
Fox News reports:
“In a tense exchange, Gowdy, himself a former federal prosecutor, ticked off what sounded like his own short list of suspects. He asked which of former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, former CIA Director John Brennan, Obama Attorney General Loretta Lynch and ex-White House adviser Ben Rhodes could have known Flynn was caught on tape conferring with the Russian ambassador.
Comey acknowledged all but Rhodes were privy to the information, the disclosing of which is a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison. Comey said he did not know if Rhodes had access to such information.”
FISA warrants cover communications for foreign nationals.
If An American citizen is picked up one, their identity is “masked.”
Flynn’s name was illegally revealed to reporters.
Gowdy spent his time questioning Comey trying to narrow the list of suspects and get to the bottom of a criminal violation of an American citizen’s constitutional rights.

There is no evidence Trump or his team colluded with Russia.
There is evidence that someone illegally leaked classified information to the media.
It’s a serious crime and it deserves an investigation.
Comey would not confirm an investigation is underway.
That does not mean an investigation is not taking place/
But since Comey took the unusual step of confirming an investigation into the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia – where there is no evidence of a crime – critics believe he owes a public accounting for an investigation into an actual crime.
