Of all the candidates running, there was one that the media hyped more than any of them.
But now he’s barely registering in the polls.
And now he got news so embarrassing he will never show his face again.
Going into the 2020 election, Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke was seen as the top tier when it comes to the Democrats running for President.
He just came off of his historic 2018 bid against Ted Cruz in Texas and had massive amounts of momentum on his side.
While he was not able to defeat Cruz, he was able to form a Senate campaign the likes of which had never been seen before.
He brought in $80 million from donors all across the country.
And he set up a ground game that left Texas Republicans more terrified than they ever have been.
Following his loss, rumors of a presidential bid began.
O’Rourke began meeting with some of Barack Obama’s key campaign staff from his 2008 campaign, and he even met with Obama himself.
The media felt that he was going to emulate his 2018 campaign, which involved having a presence in every county in the state of Texas.
His campaign was shaping up to look so similar to Obama’s campaign in 2008 that he was dubbed the next Obama by many news publications.
But O’Rourke’s fame was short lived.
He chose to go on a long hiatus, leaving his family behind so he could “find himself.”
The idea of a 45-year-old man who wants to become the leader of the free world needing to “find himself” is enough to turn many voters off.
And then he began his campaign with a whimper, failing to secure even a quarter of the excitement he had in 2018.
While O’Rourke was able to easily contrast himself from Cruz, he has not been able to do the same with the other Democrats he is running against.
His message was nothing new, and nothing exciting.
And it turns out that the very same people who supported him in 2018 understand that.
A new poll from Texas Lyceum poll shows that O’Rourke continues to lose support in his state and that former Vice President Joe Biden now has a strong lead in Texas.
The poll shows that 24 percent of Democrat voters prefer Biden, while only 18 percent support O’Rourke.
This is the man who spent $80 million in the state to grow support in 2018.
His new drop in the polls can likely be attributed to O’Rourke’s increased anti-gun rhetoric.
In recent days he has begun teaming up with the rabidly anti-gun group Moms Demand Action to push shirts reading “This is f*cked up.”
While Democrats as a whole are very anti-gun, there are many in the state of Texas who aren’t.
Or they at least aren’t as anti-gun as O’Rourke is painting himself to be.
In 2018, O’Rourke largely avoided the issue of guns, realizing it was such a divisive issue in his state.
But now that he’s running for President, he cares less about his home state, and what they believe in.
Do you think that O’Rourke should drop out of the race?
