Democrats are walking into next year trying to figure out how to hang on to their majorities in Congress.
But liberals have some bad news headed their way.
And Trey Gowdy dropped the hammer on Nancy Pelosi with one devastating truth about 2022.
Former South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy analyzed the results from the Virginia election where Republican Glenn Youngkin won the governor’s mansion for the first time for the GOP since 2009.
Youngkin’s running mates also won the lieutenantgovernor and attorney general’s races making it a clean sweep for the Republican Party.
Gowdy noted this was especially astounding because of the massive shift in votes towards Republicans from 2020 telling viewers that reversing “a double-digit political deficit in less than 12 months is rare.”
Much was made of the type of candidate Glenn Youngkin was – he ran as a kinder, gentler Trump supporter – and the fact that his running mates were a black woman and a Cuban.
But Trey Gowdy argued Republicans needed to focus on a different question.
Gowdy urged Republicans to train their attention on the “why. Why did Glenn Youngkin win and why did Winsome Sears win. What issues did they run on? And can those issues be used in other races? What was their tone and demeanor?”
In the election, Youngkin elevated education to a top issue.
Democrats usually own the education debate but Virginia’s absurdly long school closures – Democrats fell hostage to their patrons in the teachers’ unions demanding schools stay closed for around a year – as well as parents’ realization that left-wing activists infected their children’s minds with racist critical race theory turned education into a GOP strength.
Terry McAuliffe – Youngkin’s Democrat opponent – defending critical race theory by saying parents had no business having a say in their children’s education and then doubling down by calling parents racist only dug the Democrats’ hole deeper with suburban swing voters.
Youngkin also zeroed in on the case of the police arresting a father at a Loudoun County School Board meeting after the father demanded to know why the school board covered up a biological male who wore a skirt to school raping his 14-year-old daughter in a girls’ bathroom.
Gowdy demanded Republicans pay close attention to why Virginia – where Democrats won 13 straight statewide elections since 2009 – had a 12-point swing to the GOP.
Youngkin flipped the state by making the conservative case on education.
And that – Gowdy explained – was the lesson Republicans needed to take into 2022.
“To understand elections, we must focus on the why. Why did Republicans win? Why did the state go from Biden to Glenn Youngkin in less than a year? Was it a repudiation on the left, an embrace on the right, or something else?” Gowdy asked.
Gowdy predicted that if Republicans across the country ran on the issues Youngkin highlighted – opposition to school closures, mask and vaccine mandates, as well as critical race theory – Republicans could “coalesce around the why and avoid talking about issues that voters care nothing about, there may be more victories next fall.”
