Democrats thought a political gift dropped into their laps.
But the ground quickly shifted beneath their feet.
Trey Gowdy hit Democrats with one hard truth that they did not want to hear.
Democrats could not believe their good fortune when former National Security Advisor John Bolton leaked his anti-Trump book to much of the Washington fake news press corps.
Bolton smeared Trump as ignorant and incompetent and made wild charges without providing any evidence that President Trump begged China to interfere in the 2020 election and that he supported China building concentration camps to imprison Muslims.
Appearing on Fox News Channel’s “The Story with Martha MacCallum,” former South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy ripped apart Bolton’s character and charges.
Gowdy noted that word of his book first leaked in the final stages of the impeachment hoax and that Bolton refused to testify without a subpoena.
“John Bolton’s argument now is that Trump is unfit for office and should be removed, that he’s committed high crimes and misdemeanors,” Gowdy began. “Now, he had a chance to go before the House, he didn’t do it. He had a chance to go before the Senate, he didn’t do it. He had a chance to come on your show or some other host’s show and answer tough questions, but no, for $29.95, he’s going to save you from this existential threat to our republic.”
Gowdy reasoned that Bolton held off because the White House blocked publication of his book on the grounds that it was still going through a declassification process and Bolton held off until he could sell books and line his pockets.
“I think people are smart enough to know, Bolton, if you really think he’s unfit to be the leader of the free world, why didn’t you say anything? Why do I have to buy your book to get that?” Gowdy added.
Gowdy wrapped up by explaining that another reason Bolton may have held off testifying in the impeachment hoax is because Bolton would have been under oath and facing penalty of perjury.
Bolton – Gowdy explained – faces no penalty for making outlandish claims in a book.
“He ain’t being cross-examined, he’s sitting in his pajamas pecking away on his iPad. The power of cross-examination is you actually have to withstand the cauldron, I mean, withstand the heat of being questioned on it, I mean anybody can write a book and make assertions,” Gowdy continued. “Can you answer questions under cross-examination from the House or the Senate? Apparently he couldn’t, ’cause he didn’t.”
Critics contend Bolton is looking to both cash in and exact revenge on President Trump because the President refused to allow Bolton to manipulate him into starting a war with Iran.
