Former South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy had a surprising reaction to Elon Musk releasing the Twitter Files.
Gowdy’s comments came out of nowhere.
And Trey Gowdy just delivered this tragic news to Donald Trump.
The Twitter Files showed how a clutch of liberal partisans inside the social media giant meddled in the 2020 election by shadow banning conservatives and censoring the New York Post’s story about emails on Hunter Biden’s laptop that linked Joe Biden to an influence-peddling scheme and led many to believe Communist China had compromising information on Joe Biden.
It was obvious to conservatives and the few honest journalists – most of whom work for independent outlets or for themselves – realized the obvious news value of exposing the behind-the-scenes process that led to a social media company attempting to control the American political debate.
That group did not include Trey Gowdy.
Gowdy joined the liberal media chorus claiming this story was no big deal because the Twitter Files showed liberals helping liberals.
“Yeah, Bret, I hate to be an outlier, but a group of Democrats showing preference for a Democrat and suppressing Republicans, it’s just not breaking news to me,” Gowdy stated.
Gowdy falsely compared Twitter censoring stories that could hurt Joe Biden’s campaign and limiting the ability of conservatives to communicate with their followers to The New York Times endorsing Democrats for president every campaign.
“I mean, The New York Times and Politico have been doing it for decades. So, I mean, shame on us for becoming so reliant on social media. If there is entanglement between government or law enforcement or intelligence community and Twitter, that’s a different story. But Bret, The New York Times does not endorse a Republican since Dwight Eisenhower,” Gowdy continued.
“I mean, who is surprised that a group of Democrats is going to suppress positive stories about Republicans and amplify negative stories about Republicans? It’s just not surprising to me,” Gowdy concluded.
Fox News’ “Special Report” host Bret Baier pointed out it was newsworthy that then-Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey testified under oath before Congress that Twitter did not shadow ban conservatives.
Journalist Bari Weiss’s reporting showed internal screenshots of how woke Twitter employees limited the ability of users to search for conservatives like Dan Bongino or Charlie Kirk.

The Twitter Files are clearly major news as it confirmed how top executives at Twitter put their thumbs on the scale during the 2020 election and potentially committed a criminal offense by perjuring themselves in front of Congress.
And many conservatives cannot understand why Trey Gowdy cannot understand this fact.
