For the second time in a year Nancy Pelosi bet the Democrats’ political fortunes on impeachment.
But now Pelosi and her allies got some bad news.
And that’s because Trey Gowdy just humiliated Nancy Pelosi with this devastating reality check.
After the initial presentations in the Senate impeachment trial for Donald Trump, Fox News host John Roberts asked former Congressman Trey Gowdy if the Democrats’ presentation would sway Republican senators to vote to convict Donald Trump.
Gowdy explained that while Democrats put on a video presentation of violent images from the riots that the corporate media universally praised as supposedly “powerful,” it amounted to nothing more than a sleight of hand card trick.
“I do not John. And I can tell you having done trial work when you start the trial with half of the jury thinking you shouldn’t even be there, you’re not going to win,” Gowdy stated. “None of those 45 will change their mind.”
Gowdy noted that heading into the trial, 45 Republican senators already voted to dismiss the article of impeachment as unconstitutional arguing the Senate did not have jurisdiction to try a former President who was out of office.
Democrats understood this reality and Gowdy argued that Pelosi and the House impeachment managers had another goal in mind.
Gowdy claimed that if the Democrats actually wanted to try and win a conviction they would argue their case based on what happened after the riot started.
“I think the Democrats in their haste to impeach this president for the second time picked the weakest of their arguments,” Gowdy added. “I’m not suggesting they would have been successful on another argument. But a much better argument is okay, you were surprised that the siege took place. What did you do once you learned that it was happening? That is the better impeachment article, is what did the President do once the siege began, but they didn’t want to do that.”
But Gowdy pointed out that Democrats couldn’t make this case so instead were chasing down a rabbit hole falsely claiming President Trump’s words incited a riot because this was nothing more than a political exercise for Nancy Pelosi to try and score points ahead of the 2022 midterms.
“So what you’re going to see next week on both sides, frankly, the defense will do this, too. You’re going to see these violent images, and then transposed above that will be the words of the president even though they’re not connected in time. It’s all for the court of public opinion. Nancy Pelosi admitted that last week is for the court of public opinion. It’s not for the 100 senators,” Gowdy added.
Trump supporters criticized this second impeachment as a partisan crusade to punish Donald Trump and impeach his voters.
Trey Gowdy made the case the Democrats aren’t in it to win it and that the fears of Trump supporters are well-grounded.
