China unleashed the coronavirus on the world.
The Chinese government’s lies and cover-up hid the truth about the virus leaking from a laboratory in Wuhan.
Trey Gowdy went on Fox News and sent one message to China that no one saw coming.
The Chinese government’s negligence and lies about the virus not only caused a public health crisis, it also crippled economies because so many countries outsourced their supply chains to China.
When Chinese factories shut down after the virus spread in Wuhan, it damaged the ability of nations around the world to stockpile much-needed medical equipment.
U.S. companies like General Electric, MyPillow and 3M stepped in to fill the void and produce vital personal protective equipment and ventilators.
Over the last 20 years, the U.S. shipped 5 million manufacturing jobs and 3.7 million jobs across all industries to China.
Political elites in both parties lectured the public that so-called “free trade” with China would liberalize the authoritarian Chinese government, lift hundreds of millions of Chinese out of poverty and boost economic growth in America as the public had more disposable income because goods from China were cheaper.
But in the wake of the coronavirus, many Americans are calling into question this globalist gospel.
Appearing on “Fox and Friends,” Trey Gowdy stated that manufacturing jobs needed to return to American shores.
“The best remedy of all is to no longer have to rely on the [Defense Production Act] and the best way is for American manufacturers to make the things we need for our national security,” Gowdy explained to the “Fox and Friends” hosts.
Conservative Missouri Senator Josh Hawley picked up on that point and recently introduced legislation requiring the U.S. medical supply chain return to America.
“The coronavirus outbreak in China has highlighted severe and longstanding weaknesses in our medical supply chain. This is more than unfortunate; it’s a danger to public health. Our health officials need to know the extent of our reliance on Chinese production so they can take all necessary action to protect Americans. This legislation will give us the information we need to better secure our supply chain and ensure that Americans have uninterrupted access to life-saving drugs and medical devices,” Senator Hawley stated.
Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin stated that this bill was not necessary because American companies understood the need to move their manufacturing back to the United States.
“I don’t think we need that in a bill. I think that Americans understand that we want to make sure that critical supplies, we can make [them] in the USA, for the USA. So, that’s something that’s been in the president’s agenda from the campaign. That’s something we’ll continue to execute upon. And I don’t think we need legislation to do that. I think companies understand that and we understand that,” Secretary Mnuchin stated.
Donald Trump won the presidency questioning the globalist elite consensus on trade, immigration and foreign policy.
The coronavirus outbreak proved his warning about the dangers of outsourcing to China prophetic.
