One of President Donald Trump’s greatest accomplishments in the White House so far has been his ability to appoint dozens of judges to lifetime offices across the country.
Most importantly, he’s also appointed two new Supreme Court justices since taking office.
And now, Trump just got the news that he may have a third Supreme Court seat to fill soon.
President Donald Trump’s lasting legacy above all else will be his judicial nominees.
Long after he leaves office, the President’s picks for everything from lower tier federal courts all the way to the Supreme Court itself will still be in office making rules that affect the lives of millions of Americans.
Already, the President’s two previous Supreme Court appointees, Justices Neil Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh are reshaping the court to be more conservative than it has been in decades.
If the President gets an opportunity to fill one or two more seats on the court, he could completely reshape the way the federal judiciary operates for a generation.
And Trump just got the news that he may have an opportunity to do just that sooner rather than later.
Breitbart reports, “U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg recently underwent three weeks of radiation treatment following the discovery of a cancerous tumor on her pancreas, a court spokesperson announced Friday.”
This is another round of medical treatment for one of the most liberal justices on the Supreme Court.
And Ginsburg may have to soon retire from the court if she finds herself unable to continue serving as a Justice.
If that happens, she will be opening up the third Supreme Court seat that President Trump could fill in just his first term in office.
That would be a political victory, unlike anything the President has seen to date.
And it would guarantee his legacy for decades to come, all while leaving the left reeling from one of the biggest political disasters of the century.
“Ginsburg, 86, began radiation therapy at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City on August 5th, according to the court. Doctors from the hospital said tests show that the rest of the justice’s body is cancer-free. As part of Ginsburg’s treatment, doctors inserted a stent into her bile duct,” adds Breitbart.
Ginsburg has chosen to remain in office for years despite calls for her retirement.
And while President Obama was in office, she again rejected demands for her to step down while Democrats could still nominate someone to the seat as her replacement.
That could come back to haunt them however if Ginsburg vacates the seat while Trump is still in office and Republicans hold the votes in the Senate to fill her seat should she step down.
“Last year, Ginsburg signaled she intends to remain on the bench by hiring law clerks for at least two additional terms. In an interview last December, Ginsburg affirmed her commitment to remain a justice for ‘as long as I can do it full steam.’,” concludes Breitbart.
