The first term of Donald Trump’s presidency has been rocky.
He has faced intense opposition, making it difficult for him to do anything.
But now Democrats are on red alert after Trump scored his biggest win yet.
Trump’s biggest campaign promise is to secure the border.
On the campaign trail, he screamed this promise at every campaign rally.
But due to Democrat opposition, it has been extremely difficult to do much.
That is until this week when Trump announced he will be scrapping the Flores settlement, which prevents border patrol from detaining illegal immigrant family units for more than 20 days.
He will be rewriting it to give officials more time to process illegal immigrants, instead of giving those who come over with a child a free pass to be released after 20 days.
Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Commissioner Mark Morgan gave the strongest defense yet of this proposal.
“This is a game-changer… Because of the current Flores settlement agreement, everybody knows… you grab a kid, that’s your U.S. passport into the United States because we can’t hold you more than 20 days,” Morgan told Fox News.
“That’s not long enough to go through the immigration proceedings. That’s catch and release… This new rule is going to address this.”
The mainstream media is claiming that Trump scrapping this rule will result in “indefinite detention” of migrants.
This is something that Morgan points out as ridiculous, as many of the terms in the ruling will still remain in effect; it is just that it will allow them to increase the number of days migrants can be held.
“From 20 to about 50 to 60 days, in general, is what we’re talking about. It’s not indefinite,” he said. “It’s just long enough to go through the immigration process.”
As expected, this proposal will face intense opposition.
Democrats are already speaking out against it, using lies to promote their agenda.
Already, Sen. Dianne Feinstein has a bill that would prevent Trump from changing the Flores settlement.
She claims that his rule change will have “terrible consequences for immigrant children.”
And along with her bill, it is a virtual certainty that left-wing groups like the ACLU will file lawsuits to challenge the change.
But Morgan is confident that they can survive any such challenge.
“We’re going to see some lawsuits… but I’m hopeful that we’re going to get this passed,” he said. “The American people need to understand, this is a game-changer. This needs to get passed. This will absolutely eliminate a significant part of this crisis.”
The ultimate irony to Democrats freaking out over this is that Trump’s proposed changed to the Flores settlement will actually provide stronger protections for children in detention.
For the first time, it will allow a child under detention to be released “to a brother, sister, aunt, uncle, or grandparent who is not in detention.”
So Democrat outrage, like it virtually always is, doesn’t make any sense.
Do you agree with Trump’s decision to scrap the Flores settlement, as it is written?
