President Trump has campaigned on being one of the toughest Presidents of all time on illegal immigration.
And he’s now making good on his campaign promises.
It’s all because Trump just made one move that could stop illegal immigrants in their tracks.
President Donald Trump owes the title he currently serves to his promise to tackle the pressing issue of illegal immigration head on.
He made it his signature campaign issue right from the start.
On the very first day of his announcement that he was running for President, Trump mentioned that he would solve the issue of illegal immigrants crossing the US – Mexico border.
Trump proceeded to destroy the rest of the Republican field on the backs of millions of Americans who voted for him, in part, because of that campaign promise.
And when the general election rolled around, Trump stunned the world by upsetting Hillary Clinton, in part, because he promised to end illegal immigration and Clinton’s campaign made it all but obvious that they would continue keeping the flood gates open.
Now that he’s President, Trump is working harder than ever to make good on his promises.
The President signed an executive order, bypassing Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats in Congress, to construct a border wall with Mexico.
And he’s fought back against Democratic attempts to curb, slow down, or outright stop his attempts to combat violence brought over by drug cartels and violent illegal aliens.
Trump has also stepped up efforts to deport illegal immigrants since taking office.
And now, he’s unveiled a new poll that could put an end to all forms of illegal immigration for good.
Fox News reports, “The Trump administration on Wednesday plans to end a legal ‘loophole’ that has allowed illegal-immigrant families to enter the U.S., according to reports. The action would replace a court order known as the Flores Settlement that has helped create a ‘catch and release’ policy regarding immigrant families.”
This is a huge win for every American who voted for the President in 2016 on the promise that he would help combat illegal immigration.
And for the President himself, it’s fulfilling a major campaign pledge that he made back in the early stages of the election that saw him defeat Clinton in the first place.
Trump promised the American people he would work to end harmful practices like “catch and release” which only helps to fuel illegal immigration.
And now he’s making good on that promise.
“Under the new planned policy, migrant families could be detained together while immigration judges consider their cases, instead of being released after 20 days, as stipulated under Flores,” reports Fox News.
This decision was accompanied by a press release from the Trump administration which stated: “President Trump has made it clear that he’s going to secure America’s border at all cost and this rule plays a vital role in the strategy to restore the integrity to our immigration system and our national security.”
With the 2020 elections just around the corner, this move could be critical to keeping the President’s base energized and behind their candidate as he prepares to face off against the Democrats for control of the White House for the next four years.
Do you think the President was right to end catch and release?
