President Trump is locked in a political battle with Nancy Pelosi unlike anything seen before.
And things just got more heated than ever.
President Trump’s chief of staff said five words to Pelosi that she will never forget.
Nancy Pelosi has worked since Day 1 to destroy President Trump.
And after taking control of the House of Representatives last year, she’s tried to derail his presidency at every step of the way.
But President Trump isn’t taking any of this sitting down.
He’s fighting back, and he’s still winning.
After outplaying Pelosi on the battle over the border wall with Mexico, President Trump then humiliated Pelosi with news that he did not collude with the Russians in the 2016 election.
And now Pelosi is reeling after President Trump’s chief of staff told her that she will never see his tax returns.
The Hill reports, “Acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney said Sunday that Democrats will “never” see President Trump’s tax returns.”
“Nor should they. That’s an issue that was already litigated during the election. Voters knew the president could have given his tax returns, they knew that he didn’t, and they elected him anyway,” Mulvaney said during an appearance on “Fox News Sunday.”
Mulvaney added that Democrats “know they’re not going to” get the tax returns.
“They just want attention on the issue because they don’t want to talk to us about policy,” he said.
This is horrible news for Democrats, especially Pelosi herself.
They had made the issue of getting Trump’s tax returns a key part of the 2018 elections that saw them take control of the House of Representatives.
And Democrats were prepared to try and make it an issue in 2020 as well.
But now it seems their plotting to get a hold of the returns has been dashed forever.
There’s really little that Democrats can do at this point to get Trump’s tax returns either.
But Mulvaney dropped a reminder to them this past week anyway.
“They know one of the fundamental principles of the IRS is to protect the confidentiality of you and me and everybody else who files taxes. They know that. They know the terms under law by which the IRS can give them the documents, but political hit job is not one of those reasons,” he added.
At this point, the issue may finally be over, and it’s another victory for President Trump and a huge defeat for the Democrats and Nancy Pelosi.
But that doesn’t mean that Democrats won’t stop complaining about the returns, just like they won’t stop complaining about Russian collusion even after Robert Mueller cleared the President just a few weeks ago.
“Last week, House Democrats formally requested Trump’s tax returns, with Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal (D-Mass.) asking IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig to turn over six years of Trump’s personal and business tax returns,” reports the Hill.
