Tucker Carlson is the number one rated talk show host on all of cable news.
But that time could be coming to an end.
Tucker Carlson could leave Fox News for a jaw-dropping career move.
Win or lose, 2020 will be the last election where Donald Trump leads the GOP at the top of the ticket.
The 2024 GOP primary promises to be a free-for-all as possibly more than 20 Republicans fight to be Donald Trump’s successor.
Right now, one of the most buzzed about possible candidates is Fox News host Tucker Carlson.
POLITICO reported that “Sixteen prominent Republicans interviewed by POLITICO said there’s an emerging consensus in the GOP that the 51-year-old Carlson would be formidable if he were to run. Some strategists aligned with other potential candidates are convinced he will enter the race and detect the outlines of a stump speech in Carlson’s recent Fox monologues. Others, particularly those who know him well, are skeptical that he would leave his prime-time TV gig.”
Donors, activists and other conservative media personalities point to Carlson’s message that GOP elites fail to deliver on behalf of their voters and reject Donald Trump’s message in favor of a corporate friendly brand of appeasement of the left, as well as Carlson’s four million plus nightly viewers plus his ability to have his monologues spread virally on social media all combining to make Carlson a formidable candidate.
“There is at the very least a significant faction within the Republican Party that [Carlson] has a huge stake in and arguably leadership over,” National Review Editor Rich Lowry told POLITICO. “If he has political ambitions, he has an opening. He has a following and a taste for controversy. He’s smart, quick on his feet and personable. Political experience matters less than it once did.”
“What he’s been saying speaks for a lot of people, and it’s basically not expressed or serviced by most Republican politicians,” Lowry added. “There’s a lot to be said for being fearless, and he is, while Republican politicians, as a breed, are not.”
There is little doubt that once Donald Trump leaves the stage, establishment Republicans like Mitt Romney and Nikki Haley that support amnesty, foreign wars and globalist trade deals will leap at the chance to seize back the reins of power from the conservatives that put Donald Trump in charge.
Conservatives that support secure borders, traditional values, and the rest of the “Make America Great Again” agenda will need a champion.
And some donors and conservative heavyweights believe Tucker Carlson has the right stuff to be that voice for the GOP base that is tired of establishment politicians promising to fight the left on the campaign trail, but rolling over without putting up a fight once in Washington.
