Fox News Channel viewers could not believe what they were seeing.
Tucker Carlson engaged Texas Senator Ted Cruz in one of the most compelling interviews anyone had ever seen.
And then Tucker Carlson forced Ted Cruz to admit one thing that had all hell breaking loose.
Senator Cruz infuriated Tucker Carlson and other Trump supporters when Cruz used Democrat talking points in calling the January 6 riot at the Capitol a “terrorist attack.”
“We are approaching a solemn anniversary this week,” Cruz said on January 5. “And it is an anniversary of a violent terrorist attack on the Capitol where we saw the men and women of law enforcement demonstrate incredible courage, incredible bravery, risk their lives to defend the men and women who serve in this Capitol.”
After Carlson called out Cruz, the Texas senator appeared the next night to explain himself.
Carlson began by telling Cruz that Carlson knew Cruz as one of the most careful people he’s ever known so Carlson wanted to know why Cruz would use such a reckless phrase like “terrorist attack” to describe the January 6 riot.
“There are a lot of dumb people in the Congress. You are not one of them,” Carlson began. “I think you’re smarter than I am. And you never use words carelessly. And yet you called this a terror attack when by no definition was it a terror attack. That’s a lie. You told that lie on purpose, and I’m wondering why you did.”
Cruz tried to apologize and claimed he mistakenly used that phrase out of rhetorical sloppiness.
“Well, Tucker, thank you for having me on,” Cruz began. “When you aired your episode last night I sent you a text shortly thereafter and said listen, I would like to go on because the way I phrased things yesterday, it was sloppy and it was frankly dumb.”
Carlson did not buy Cruz’s response and pushed back which led to Cruz claiming he only meant to call the protestors that engaged police officers with violence terrorists.
That still did not satisfy Carlson as Carlson pointed out even assaulting a police officer is not a crime the government considers terrorism.
Carlson also added that none of the protestors arrested for assaulting police officers on January 6 were charged with terrorism.
The popular Fox News host scolded Cruz for using Biden administration talking points that gave credence to the new scheme by Biden to unleash the FBI, Homeland Security and Department of Justice against Trump supporters as part of a new domestic war on terror.
“Hold on, what you just said doesn’t make sense. So, if somebody assaults a cop, he should be charged and go to jail, I couldn’t agree more. We have said that for years. But that person is still not a terrorist. How many people have been charged with terrorism on Jan. 6? Like, why did you use that word? You’re playing into the other side’s characterization that… allows them to define an entire population as foreign combatants, and you know that, so why did you do it?” Carlson asked.
That led to Cruz backpedaling even further and disavowing the idea of January 6 being a terrorist attack and telling Carlson’s viewers that he led the fight in the Senate against Biden using the FBI to target parents that protested mask mandates and critical race theory at school board meetings as domestic terrorists.
