Tucker Carlson is one of the most popular hosts on Fox News and one of President Trump’s most high-profile supporters.
That puts a target on his back.
And now Tucker Carlson got hit with this lawsuit by a Playboy Playmate that could end his career.
Karen McDougal was one of two women who alleged affairs with Donald Trump during the 2016 campaign.
The National Enquirer and Trump Attorney Michael Cohen allegedly paid hush money to McDougal and adult film star Stormy Daniels late in the 2016 campaign to prevent their stories from going public.
Former Trump attorney Michael Cohen pled guilty to campaign finance violations over these payments and for a time the fake news media thought this scandal would be the silver bullet that led to Donald Trump’s arrest, impeachment or resignation.
On a Dec. 10, 2018 broadcast of Tucker Carlson’s show, the Fox News host addressed this story by stating, “Two women approached Donald Trump and threatened to ruin his career and humiliate his family if he doesn’t give them money. Now that sounds like a classic case of extortion.”
Carlson never named McDougal.
But a photograph of the December 1997, Playboy Playmate of the month appeared on screen.
Nearly a year later, McDougal responded by filing a lawsuit accusing Tucker Carlson on defamation of character by accusing McDougal of extortion.
“This statement is completely untrue and was made knowing it was untrue and with reckless disregard for the truth,” McDougal’s lawsuit claimed.
“McDougal never approached Trump and threatened to ruin his career or humiliate his family if he did not give her money,” the lawsuit added.
Eric Bernstein – McDougal’s lawyer – claimed the former Playboy Playmate was “harassed, embarrassed and ridiculed” after the segment aired on Carlson’s show.
“Media outlets like Fox News must learn that they can’t mislead for ratings,” Bernstein told the New York Times. “They hurt real people like Karen McDougal when they do so.”
In response, Fox News issued a statement promising to defend Tucker Carlson to the hilt.
“Fox News will vigorously defend Tucker Carlson against these meritless claims,” the Fox News statement read.
This is not the first controversy Carlson found himself in the middle of.
Liberal pressure groups will often target Carlson for sponsor boycotts claiming his defense of the President’s “Make America Great Again” agenda is “racist.”
The left‘s goal is to deprive Fox News of any ability to profit from Carlson’s show to force the network to take him off the air.
Carlson fans worry liberal activist groups like the George Soros-funded Media Matters will seize on McDougal’s lawsuit as their scheme to silence Carlson once and for all.
