America’s law enforcement is under attack.
Rioting mobs in the streets threaten their safety and Democrat politicians fight to defund the police.
But what Joe Biden just did to sell out police officers has all hell breaking loose.
Joe Biden scrubbed plans for a police reform commission after Black Lives Matter rioters looted the town of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota after a police officer accidentally shot Daunte Wright after Wright was involved in a traffic stop and had an outstanding weapons charge against him.
Domestic Policy Council chief Susan Rice announced the decision to ice the police reform commission.
“Based on close, respectful consultation with partners in the civil rights community, the administration made the considered judgment that a police commission, at this time, would not be the most effective way to deliver on our top priority in this area, which is to sign the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act into law,” Rice told POLITICO.
Instead, Biden and his allies plan to turn the screws on Congress to eliminate the filibuster and ram through far-left anti-police legislation that would put police officers’ lives in danger and cause them to work in a constant state of fear.
President of the Leadership Conference Wade Henderson endorsed the new plan to attack police.
“As the ongoing trial in the death of George Floyd makes clear, transforming policing in America is one of the most urgent crises facing the nation today,” Henderson said in a statement to POLITICO. “We also agree with the White House decision to forgo the creation of a commission to study the problem.
“This matter is much too urgent for delay, and Congress is by far the more appropriate venue to consider changes in law regarding police accountability,” Henderson continued.
There are three pillars to the bill that critics call the “Cripple the Police Act” that would open up cops to be personally sued for performing their job, make it easier for prosecutors to put police in jail and increase federal oversight of local police.
According to the bill text, the legislation:
- lowers the criminal intent standard—from willful to knowing or reckless—to convict a law enforcement officer for misconduct in a federal prosecution,
- limits qualified immunity as a defense to liability in a private civil action against a law enforcement officer or state correctional officer, and
- authorizes the Department of Justice to issue subpoenas in investigations of police departments for a pattern or practice of discrimination.
In 2020 Democrats paid a steep price in congressional elections for supporting defunding the police.
With their majorities on the line in 2022, Joe Biden and the Democrats are taking a risk in making attacking the police to placate Black Lives Matter rioters a centerpiece of their legislative agenda.
