And what they found in Joe Biden’s office was the smoking gun in this criminal investigation.
Joe Biden’s lawyers tried to get out ahead of the bad news by announcing they found classified documents Joe Biden stole after his term as vice president ended and then hid in his think tank in Washington.
Attorney General Merrick Garland is trying to indict Donald Trump on charges he mishandled classified documents by keeping them at Mar-a-Lago after leaving office.
But Donald Trump had the power to declassify documents when he was president.
Joe Biden had no such power as vice president.
Biden finally addressed the growing scandal after a joint meeting with the president of Mexico and the prime minister of Canada by falsely claiming he takes classified documents seriously.
“People know I take classified documents and classified information seriously,” Biden told reporters.
But these documents sat for years in a think tank and were moved on multiple occasions, so critics contend Joe Biden clearly does not take classified documents that seriously.
Biden then claimed his lawyers found the documents when they were cleaning out his office while also lying about the fact that he was a professor at the University of Pennsylvania.
“When my lawyers were clearing out my office at the University of Pennsylvania, they set up an office for me — a secure office — in the Capitol, when I — the four years after being vice president — I was a professor at Penn,” Biden added. “They found some documents in a box in a locked cabinet, or at least a closet.”
Biden’s lawyers reportedly discovered Biden’s stolen classified documents on November 2, one week before the November election.
The administration hid this development from the public because the Democrats wanted to make Donald Trump the central issue of the campaign.
And if the public knew Joe Biden mishandled classified documents it would have neutralized Democrats calling Trump a criminal.
“And as soon as they did, they realized there were several classified documents in that box,” Biden added. “And they did what they should have done. They immediately called the [National] Archives [and Record Administration], turned them over to the Archives, and I was briefed about this discovery and surprised to learn there were any government records that were taken there to that office.”
But this is not the end of the scandal.
Now the Justice Department is scrambling to find out if Joe Biden hid stolen classified documents in his other properties.
“A source familiar with the investigation told CBS News Justice Department officials are exploring whether there are additional classified documents in other locations,” CBS News exclusively reported.
This has many Republicans wondering when the FBI will raid Biden’s homes and ransack them looking for classified documents.
