From Nancy Pelosi on down, Democrats instantly regretted picking a fight with Attorney General William Barr.
Democrats had been chomping at the bit to get Barr under oath and take him down.
But the table turned when William Barr asked Democrats one question that led to this humiliating setback.
Led by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, Democrats made fools of themselves as they questioned Attorney General William Bar during a hearing supposedly on oversight.
One by one, they shouted angry speeches and slurs instead of asking questions, promoted conspiracy theories and generally acted like jerks.
But Attorney General Barr ended up getting the last laugh.
Arizona Republican Debbie Lesko used her time to ask real questions of Barr.
And it was in this time that Barr delivered a stinging rebuke to congressional Democrats asking why they simply could not condemn the rioters and terrorists in Portland and other cities laying siege to federal buildings and trying to maim federal law enforcement.
“What makes me concerned for the country is [that] this is the first time in my memory that the leaders of one of our great two political parties, the Democratic Party, are not coming out and condemning mob violence and the attack on federal courts,” Barr said.
“Why can’t we just say: ‘Violence against federal courts has to stop?’ Could we hear something like that?” Barr asked Congress.
Barr had to ask this question because House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler claimed that Antifa violence in Portland was a “myth.”
“That’s a myth that’s being spread only in Washington, DC,” Nadler said.
Nadler was not the only Democrat with their head in the sand.
Last week, former Vice President Joe Biden released a statement about the mayhem in Portland where he failed to condemn the violent rioters and instead blamed President Trump and federal law enforcement for the carnage.
We have a president who is determined to sow chaos and division. To make matters worse instead of better. We all remember the appalling scenes in front of the White House, when peaceful protesters were gassed to make way for a Trump photo op. Now Homeland Security agents — without a clearly defined mandate or authority — are ranging far from federal property, stripped of badges and insignia and identifying markings, to detain people. They are brutally attacking peaceful protesters, including a U.S. Navy veteran. Of course the U.S. government has the right and duty to protect federal property. The Obama-Biden administration protected federal property across the country without resorting to these egregious tactics — and without trying to stoke the fires of division in this country. We need a president who will bring us together instead of tear us apart, calm instead of inflame, and enforce the law faithfully rather than put his political interests first.
Prominent Democrats are starting to worry that over 60 days of violent and uncontrolled rioting in Portland could boomerang on Democrats this fall.
