William Barr served for two years as Donald Trump’s attorney general.
Now all hell is breaking loose.
That’s because William Barr put jaws on the ground with this confession about Donald Trump.
Former Attorney General Barr is the latest former Trump administration official to try and cash in with a book trashing Donald Trump.
Now Barr is on a media blitz to sell books and interviewers focus on Barr’s attacks on Donald Trump.
In the book, Barr attacks Trump’s attempts to prove massive voter fraud in the 2020 election as dangerous and off the rails.
NBC’s Savannah Guthrie pressed Barr on this point and Barr said Trump’s post-election actions forced Barr to say he would support a different candidate in the 2024 election.
“He wouldn’t listen to anybody except a little coterie of sycophants who were telling him what he wanted to hear,” Barr told Guthrie. “I think he did a lot of damage after the election, both with this idea that the election was stolen, and also by him rallying this group to Capitol Hill where the clear purpose was to intimidate the vice president and Congress.
“I certainly have made it clear I don’t think he should be our nominee, and I’m gonna support somebody else,” Barr added.
That led Guthrie to ask Barr the natural follow-up question of if Barr would vote for Donald Trump if Trump wins the GOP nomination for president in 2024.
“But if he is the nominee and your choice is Trump or whoever’s running on the Democratic side, would you vote for him?” Guthrie wondered.
Former Attorney General Barr admitted that even though Barr did not believe Trump’s claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election Barr would vote for Trump over any Democrat in 2024.
That’s because Barr told Guthrie he believed the Democrats’ far-left agenda presented a grave threat to the future of the United States.
“Because I believe the greatest threat to the country is the progressive agenda being pushed by the Democratic Party, it’s inconceivable to me that I wouldn’t vote for the Republican nominee,” Barr declared.
“So even if he lied about the election and threatened democracy…Better than a Democrat?” Guthrie followed up.
“As of now, it’s hard for me to conceive that I wouldn’t vote for the Republican nominee,” Barr responded.
Attorney General Barr is not the only establishment Republican who wants to seize control of the GOP back from Trump’s supporters.
But like Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, former Attorney General Barr bowed to the reality that Donald Trump is likely to be the 2024 GOP nomination and there is no path to political relevancy by saying they would support a Democrat over Trump.
