Attorney General William Barr made the rounds on Capitol Hill ducking in and out of Senators’ offices.
When news broke about why Barr was meeting with key leaders on Capitol Hill, many Trump supporters quickly feared the worst.
That’s because William Barr held this secret meeting that could end Donald Trump’s presidency.
Ever since twin mass shootings in Dayton, Ohio and El Paso, Texas took place, gun grabbers seized the initiative.
Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi and a host of anti-American gun grabbers in Washington, Hollywood, and the fake news media bombarded the Trump administration with calls that the President must sell out his voters and “do something” to ban and confiscate firearms.
Anti-gun Senators Chris Murphy of Connecticut, Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania and Joe Manchin of West Virginia huddled behind closed doors and tried to swindle President Trump into accepting a new version Toomey-Manchin bill to create a national gun registration database that failed back in 2013.
President Trump’s campaign commissioned a poll which showed conservatives would sit at home if Donald Trump signed a version of Barack Obama’s gun control into law.
That looked to be the final word on the issue.
But recently the press reported that Attorney General William Barr and White House Legislative Affairs Director Eric Ueland met with key Republicans in Congress and circulated a plan for a national gun registration database.
Barr and Ueland met with Congressman Mark Meadows – former chair of the House Freedom Caucus – and Senators Josh Hawley of Missouri and Ted Cruz of Texas.
Conservatives panned the proposed ban on private sales by forcing all commercial firearms sales to require a background check that would also create a national gun registration database.
Within hours of the meetings leaking, the White House quickly distanced itself from the anti-gun proposal.
“The President has not signed off on anything yet but has been clear he wants meaningful solutions that actually protect the American people and could potentially prevent these tragedies from ever happening again,” explained White House spokesman Hogan Gidley.
Embracing a ban on private sales and a national gun registration database would surely lead to President Trump’s defeat.
Despite the fake news media lies about “expanding your base”, Republican Presidents lose re-election when they go along with Democrats on core issues.
The most famous example is former President George H.W. Bush losing re-election to Bill Clinton in a landslide after the Democrats suckered President Bush into breaking his “read my lips” pledge on raising taxes.
Donald Trump campaigned in 2016 on ending the assault on the Second Amendment.
That pledge inspired gun owners to turn out and their votes played a decisive role in President Trump’s victory.
If President Trump succumbed to the pressure of the left and signed on to new gun control, those voters would stay home in 2020 and Donald Trump would suffer George H.W. Bush’s fate of slinking out of Washington as a one-term President.
