The war in Ukraine took a frightening turn.
This is the doomsday scenario many feared would break out.
And now World War 3 may break out after this shocking Russian missile attack.
In the early days of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine Joe Biden traveled to Poland and declared that if Russia attacked a NATO member state it would mean war.
“Don’t even think about moving on one single inch of NATO territory,” Biden declared in a speech in Warsaw. “We have a sacred obligation under Article 5 to defend each and every inch of NATO territory with the full force of our collective power.”
Joe Biden’s incompetence and bungling in foreign policy led Russian President Vladimir Putin to think he could seize Ukraine with little pushback.
After Putin launched the invasion national security experts feared World War 3 could break out in the event of an error or miscalculation.
Such a war could escalate to a nuclear holocaust ending human life on Earth.
The nightmare scenario appeared one step closer to fruition when a Russian missile struck the Polish village of Przewodów killing two.
Poland’s Prime Minister Morawiecki convened his Cabinet for an emergency meeting and considered invoking Article 4 of the NATO charter which allows a member nation to raise an issue of national security with the rest of the alliance.
The U.S. government is not committing to anything and says it is continuing the investigation of the missile attack to determine who fired the shot.
“Right now we are aware of the press reporting on this and we have no information at this time to corroborate those reports,” Pentagon Press Secretary Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder stated. “I don’t want to speculate or get into hypotheticals when it comes to our security commitments.
“We’ve been crystal clear that we will defend every inch of NATO territory,” Brig. Gen. Ryder responded when asked if this missile attack would cause NATO to invoke Article 5 – which would commit the alliance to war with Russia.
For its part, the Russian government denied responsibility claiming this was a “deliberate provocation in order to escalate the situation.”
“No strikes were made against targets near the Ukrainian-Polish state border by Russian means of destruction,” the Russian government added.
National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson posted on Twitter that the United States is “working with the Polish government to gather more information.”
“We cannot confirm the reports or any of the details at this time. We will determine what happened and what the appropriate next steps would be,” Watson added.
NATO members will meet to discuss their response to this missile attack.
In its history, NATO only invoked Article 5 once.
That was after the 9/11 terror attacks.
Few experts believe NATO will invoke Article 5 after this missile attack.
But if NATO does invoke Article 5 against Russia it would lead to a conflict that would end in nuclear war.
