There is more going on behind the scenes at Fox News Channel than anyone imagined.
Naturally, it centered around Donald Trump and the 2020 election.
And you won’t believe how close Fox News came to canceling this top star.
Dominion Voting Systems is suing Fox News Channel for $1.6 billion over on-air reporting by some Fox News personalities that the company’s machines switched votes from Donald Trump to Joe Biden.
As part of the discovery phase of the lawsuit Dominion’s lawyers came into possession of an email from a Fox News producer saying the network needed to take popular host Judge Jeanine Pirro off the air because no one could substantiate her claims that Dominion voting machines allegedly switched votes in Michigan and Georgia to Joe Biden.
David Folkenflik of National Public Radio reported:
The producer warned: Fox cannot let host Jeanine Pirro back on the air. She is pulling conspiracy theories from dark corners of the Web to justify then-President Donald Trump’s lies that the election had been stolen from him. The existence of the email, confirmed by two people with direct knowledge of it, is first publicly disclosed by NPR in this story. Fox News declined comment.
Fox News defended both Pirro and its reporting on claims made by Trump as newsworthy – even if they turned out to be inaccurate – that Dominion voting machines switched vote totals.
“Freedom of the press is foundational to our democracy and must be protected,” a Fox News spokeswoman told NPR. The Fox spokeswoman said Dominion’s claims of suffering damages were “outrageous, unsupported and not rooted in sound financial analysis, serving as nothing more than a flagrant attempt to deter our journalists from doing their jobs.”
Fox’s lawyers defended Pirro and others’ claims as a journalistic function of reporting on the allegations made by President Trump and others.
“All you’re reporting to the public is that somebody — in this case, the president of the United States — has made the allegation of voter fraud by Dominion,” Dan Webb, an attorney representing Fox News said in an interview with NPR. “I don’t know how anything could be more newsworthy than the president of the United States making the allegation, and his lawyers making the allegations in court, because that’s so fundamental.”
“This case is a relatively simple case,” Webb added.
“The question there is whether or not Fox correctly reported the allegation [of election fraud], and they did,” Webb continued. “I don’t think there’s any question that Fox accurately reported an incredibly newsworthy allegation made by the president himself.”
Dominion also sued Rudy Giuliani, Sidney Powell, Newsmax and One America News for over a billion dollars apiece.
Many on the left hope these lawsuits succeed and financially cripple conservative media outlets like Fox News, Newsmax and One America News.
