Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is seen as a close ally of Donald Trump.
But something strange happened.
And you won’t believe what Donald Trump said about Ron DeSantis.
Donald Trump made Ron DeSantis’ political career.
DeSantis languished at the bottom of the pack in the 2018 Florida gubernatorial primary until Trump endorsed DeSantis launching DeSantis to the GOP nomination and then governor’s mansion.
But with 2024 approaching Trump made an interesting comment in an interview with One America News Network that some interpreted as a brushback pitch at DeSantis.
OANN’s Dan Ball asked Trump about Trump’s controversial advocacy for the coronavirus vaccine in light of Americans’ questions about the safety and efficacy of the drug.
“Now after so many months of the vaccine being administered and these side effects, and Americans’ questions [sic] of it, do you reconsider your push for it? Or what’s your view on the vaccine in general?” Ball asked President Trump.
Trump answered by doubling down on his support for the vaccine as well as the highly debated booster shots.
President Trump stated once again that he took the vaccine and then Trump declared politicians that refused to say if they were vaccinated were “gutless.”
Trump mocked politicians that refused and danced around the booster question and would not give a straight answer on if they took the third shot.
“Well, I’ve taken it,” Trump responded. “I’ve had the booster. Many politicians–I watched a couple of politicians be interviewed and one of the questions was, ‘Did you get the booster?’ – because they had the vaccine – and they’re answering like–in other words, the answer is ‘yes’ but they don’t want to say it. Because they’re gutless. You gotta say it – whether you had it or not. Say it. But the fact is that I think the vaccines saved tens of millions throughout the world. I’ve had absolutely no side effects.”
Trump then defended the vaccine claiming it prevented serious illness and death.
“If they get it, they’re not going to hospitals for the most part and dying,” Trump added. “Before it was a horror, and now they’re not.”
The most famous politician that refused to answer if they were boosted – because vaccination status is no one’s business – was Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
Fox News Channel host Maria Bartiromo asked DeSantis – who did take the regular two-dose vaccine – if DeSantis took the booster.
DeSantis did not say yes or no.
“So, uh, uh, I’ve done, whatever I did, the normal shot,” Governor DeSantis answered.
Some pundits believe there is a bit of 2024 politics at play here.
Polls show DeSantis as the GOP frontrunner if Donald Trump does not run for president.
If Trump does run, Trump will win the nomination in a dance.
But DeSantis has not said he will not run if Trump decides to launch a re-election bid.
That’s why some saw Trump’s comments as an implicit whack at DeSantis.
