This does not happen.
Politicians don’t just walk away before an election.
And you won’t believe why one Republican senator resigned just weeks before the election.
Leading Never Trump Senator Ben Sasse of Nebraska stunned Washington by announcing his resignation to accept the position as the president of the University of Florida.
Sasse – who made his name constantly picking public fights with Donald Trump and voting to convict Trump in the January 6 impeachment sham – explained his reasoning in an interview with National Review.
“I honestly think this is the most interesting university in the country right now,” Sasse told National Review. “I think it’s the most important institution in the most dynamic state in the union.”
Sasse – who just won a second term in 2020 – told National Review that his constituents never expected him to spend a lifetime in the Senate.
“Nebraskans have well understood that I didn’t expect to be in politics as a lifelong calling. I need to get back to building stuff,” Sasse explained. “The best picture in the dome of the U.S. Capitol is Washington surrendering power.”
Donald Trump wasted no time ripping the Never Trump Sasse after Sasse spent Trump’s four years in office never passing up an opportunity to show off for the corporate media by attacking Donald Trump and Trump’s America First policy agenda.
Trump posted on his Truth Social platform:
Great news for the United States Senate, and our Country itself. Liddle’ Ben Sasse, the lightweight Senator from the great State of Nebraska, will be resigning. If he knew he was going to resign so early in his term, why did he run in the first place? But it’s still great news! The University of Florida will soon regret their decision to hire him as their President.
We have enough weak and ineffective RINOs in our midst. I look forward to working with the terrific Republican Party of Nebraska to get a REAL Senator to represent the incredible People of that State, not another Fake RINO!
Ben Sasse was a complete non-entity in the Senate and wasted eight years doing nothing.
Sasse campaigned in 2014 as a healthcare expert based on his time in the Health and Human Services Department in the Bush administration.
Yet during the fight to repeal Obamacare Sasse was nowhere to be found and never offered up a conservative, free market alternative to the socialist Obamacare scheme.
Sasse also never led a fight against the left or the GOP establishment.
Instead, Sasse spent his time whining about Donald Trump culminating with his conviction vote in Nancy Pelosi’s second impeachment witch hunt.
Now it falls to Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts to appoint a replacement who will serve until 2024 at which time the state will hold a special election to pick who will fill out the remainder of Sasse’s six-year term.
