Democrats continue to harbor doubts about Joe Biden running for re-election in 2024.
Many in the party believe Joe Biden is too old, too unpopular and too cognitively compromised to withstand a presidential campaign.
And you’ll be speechless when you see what Hillary Clinton just announced about Joe Biden.
Hillary Clinton is one of the Democrats positioning herself to run for president in 2024 if Joe Biden passes on re-election.
Clinton’s stepped up her media presence, hosted campaign fundraisers for down-ballot Democrats, and delivered at least one major speech.
But at the Aspen Ideas Festival Clinton offered an artful dodge about Joe Biden.
“I would endorse our sitting president, yes, of course,” Clinton responded when asked by left-wing activist Yamiche Alcindor about if Clinton would endorse Joe Biden.
“I mean, this is a silly question,” Clinton added.
Clinton explained her endorsement for Joe Biden hinged on Biden being the most electable Democrat.
“Let’s go with the person most likely to win,” Clinton concluded. “Joe Biden beat in a huge landslide victory in the popular vote Donald Trump. I think that says a lot.”
But that answer did not mean Clinton would pass on a presidential campaign if Joe Biden did not run for re-election.
And in Clinton’s subsequent answers Clinton staked out ground on abortion that would outflank any other Democrat running in 2024.
Clinton attacked Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas in racist terms smearing Thomas as an angry black man.
“I would just add that anybody not taking Clarence Thomas seriously has not been paying attention to Clarence Thomas,” Clinton told the crowd. “He is signaling exactly what he intends to signal to judges at the lower level in the federal system, judges in the state systems, legislators, attorneys generals — ‘Hey, start figuring out how to get some cases …’”
Clinton and Thomas were at Yale Law School at the same time, but they did not intersect as Clinton graduated a year before Thomas.
Hillary Clinton – unsurprisingly – lied about knowing Thomas was an angry reactionary during his time at Yale.
In fact, Thomas was still a liberal while at Yale and his ideological journey to stalwart conservatives was just underway.
“Before the overturning of the Roe decision,” Clinton continued ranting that “there has been and we have been seeing it building, a real pushback against women’s advancement and progress in many places of the world. The pandemic made it even worse … so you know Madeleine was acutely aware of that as the tide shifts more toward authoritarianism. …. Very often the first targets promoting that kind of demagoguery were women’s rights.”
Finally, Clinton embraced the popular position on the socialist left to nuke the legislative filibuster.
“Democrats should take a great big breath and lift the filibuster for constitutional issues. Two that come to mind are a woman’s right to privacy and voting rights,” Clinton stated.
Hillary Clinton saying she will endorse Joe Biden if Biden runs for re-election is not the same thing as Clinton swearing off a presidential campaign of her own if Biden does not run.
And every indication is that Clinton is prepared to launch a third White House bid if Joe Biden takes a pass on seeking a second term.
