And now something from Bill Clinton’s past just came back to haunt him.
The American people elected Donald Trump because Barack Obama and the Democrat Party made it clear the interests of foreigners came ahead of United States citizens.
Donald Trump promised to reverse this disturbing trend.
The President attempted to make good on this trust by making whatever changes to America’s immigration system that the law allowed.
One area non-citizens were taking advantage of the American people was through welfare benefits.
In 1996, Bill Clinton signed the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act into law.
To show how much things have since changed, pro-open borders globalist Democrat Senators Pat Leahy and Patty Murray sponsored the legislation.
Part of the bill mandated that sponsors of immigrants must reimburse the government for any welfare benefits paid out to the immigrants they would bring into the country.
But the bill was never enforced by both Democrat and Republican Presidents.
So sponsors were able to load up the immigration systems with immigrants who would drink from the government trough with no penalty.
Donald Trump just corrected the federal government’s embarrassing failure to enforce this law.
A senior administration official explained to the Daily Caller why enforcing this law is so important.

Sponsor repayment of welfare benefits was enacted under the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996, but has remained largely unenforced. The bill was sponsored by Democratic Sens. Patrick Leahy and Patty Murray.
“This executive action will dramatically curb ‘welfare tourism’ and protect U.S. benefits for U.S. families,” a senior administration official told The Daily Caller. “It will also ensure that immigrant sponsors cannot continue the practice of bringing in large numbers of welfare-dependent immigrants: because they will be financially liable.”
In today’s political environment, it is impossible to imagine a Democrat President signing such a bill into law or seeing a Democrat Senator attach their names to its legislation.
Today’s Democrat Party sees any immigration enforcement as an act of “white supremacy.”
Thanks to radical open borders supporters like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar, defunding ICE holds more currency in the Democrat Party coalition than protecting the American taxpayer.
Many pundits believe Trump’s immigration agenda was central to his victory in 2016.
And Democrats are playing into his hands by opposing any tightening of the nation’s immigration laws.
Democrats will surely oppose Trump enforcing the law and requiring sponsors to pay back the government for non-citizen’s welfare benefits.
But that puts Democrats in a no-win situation.
Depending on the tack they take in responding to Trump’s latest effort to shape a fairer immigration system, they will either alienate their radical base or alienate the larger American public.
